  • Riddle me This ...

    Hi,
    I've got a prob!

My G 450 16MB DDR DH make some trouble.
Everytime I load up a 3d-game it hangs up or
after a short while of playing.

Win98se give out a conflict with some E/A Adresses
    of my grafikadapter.

I think the options of my AMI Bios aren't set correctly.

    Here they're:
    MSI-6380 KT266 Pro-R

Configure SDRAM Timing by: SPD, User
    SDRAM Frequency: SPD, HCLK, HCLK-33
    SDRAM Latency: 2 , 2,5
SDRAM Bank Interleave: 2-way, 4-way, Disable
    SDRAM 1T Command: Enable, Disable

    AGP Mode: 1x, 2x, 4x, Auto
    AGP Comp. Driving: Auto, Manual
Manual AGP Comp. Driving: CB, DC, ...
    AGP Fast Write: Enable, Disable
    AGP Read Sync.: Enable, Disable
    AGP Aperture Size: 4MB - 256MB
APG Master W/S Write: Enable, Disable
AGP Master W/S Read: Enable, Disable
    Read & Write Delay: 0, 1, 2, 3
Search for MDA Resources: Yes, No
    PCI Master Caching: Enable, Disable
    PCI Delay Transaction: Enable, Disable

I hope you know the rigth solution?

    My System:

AMD TB 1333 MHz 266 FSB
    512MB DDR Cycle 2,5 2,6V
    MSI-6380 KT 266 Pro-R
    G 450 16MB DDR DH IRQ 11

Terratec DMX xfire 1024 IRQ 10

    AVM ISDN Adapter IRQ 12

    Toshiba S1502 DVD
    Maxtor 40,3GB 8,5ms 7200U/min 2MB
    And a lot of Fan's

I hope You could help me!

rastlin4711, you seem to have given us the bios options without actually telling us which ones you're using so could you do so?
additionally, could you post a full listing of your irqs?

Willkommen an Bord! Naja, besser spät als nie

Ok, please post your IRQs and your I/O adresses too. How to do this, take a look here: http://forums.murc.ws/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25593

THe procedure is the same for I/O, just go to the I/O (E/A in Deutsch) section instead of IRQ.

Can you also specify which games don't run and if you run in OpenGL or D3D? And please also add the driver version for your G450.

I don't own a G450, so i can be wrong, but i experience a similiar problem with my G400 in HL and any mods for this game. It runs OK in D3D, though. Needless to say i haven't found a solution yet

So, let's see what we can find out and if we can fix this.

      Regards

this is a good site for explaining what each parameter is & how to tweak it.
one thing that I did notice is your low AGP aperture size of 32Mb. in the first instance, I would increase that to either 64 or 128 to see if it solves your problem with 3Dgames.
btw, I use 256Mb AGP aperture size with my G400.

edit: have you installed all the necessary drivers for m/board?

If you other special ideal, please post it.

And anybody want you can post also in german.

Well, let's keep it english, because some of the "more experienced" users here are english speaking. But then, who am i to decide?

Anyhow, i would like to see the devices that cause the I/O conflict. I am not certain but pretty sure that they are the reason for your problems, since UT is a D3D game and Diablo shouldn't utilize any 3D operations, or am i wrong?

I am not sure about the Aperture Size, the german Matrox support once said that users should set the Aperture Size to the amount of RAM on the card and i have kept it there since then. OTOH i still have problems in OpenGL

For starters please set AGP speed to 1x in the BIOS and keep Fast Write disabled. Also force the G450 to AGP 1x by using the MTSTU tool - found somewhere on this site - this usually helps on alot of problems with the G400, maybe it does so with the G450.

Just maybe: set the RAM settings for your mainboard RAM to Auto (which will most likely default to CAS Lat 3) and set the Bank Interleave to 4-way or to Auto too. If you don't happen to own brand RAM with appropiate stats you should try these conservative settings.

That's all for the moment, please give us feedbak on how different settings worked. Regards

Edit: here's the link for the MTSTU: http://www.murc.ws/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?si...l=mtstu418.zip

You should set the apperture size to 128Mb or more, depending on the amount of RAM you have in your system. You said you have 256Mb if I am not mistaken so it would be wise to set the apperture size to that amount.
Check the temeperature of your CPU.
                    Few questions...
                    Latest DirectX?
Is the problem OpenGL related, or is it occuring in Direct3D also?
                    Have you tried Win2K?
Does your computer crash if not playing games? (Try running Seti@home, 3DMark and creating MP3's at the same time, to put your system to full load)

                      Here are News ...

The system give out a Windows "Protection-Fault".
After a crash the system say that, then I have to reboot
in the Saved Mode before I can reboot to the normal Win98se
mode. Thats new, I suggets it could be a wrong option
with my G 450 or my cordless trackball?

                      And Diablo is a D3D-game.

I will try AGP 1x and I try the RAM-settigns.

The 256MB AGP Aperture Size prevent obviosly some
                      crashes but even not all.

And Goc nice tip to max out zeh system resourcess
with some ripping MP3's and burnig some CDR's but
the system seems to be ok in the 2D-mode.

Win2k is not the solution because my hardware
dislike it, but thanks for the tip.
                      I got 2453 3DMarks @ 3DMark2001 not much but ok.

Since I set the Aperture Size to 256MB if got no crashes
                      under Unreal T.

OpenGL games aren't being a prob, I never have a crash
                      under such games.

I hope u r try to solve this.

                      Thx to all.

Well, the protection fault thingy comes up on my machine mostly if I set the bios RAM settings too agressive (i.e. CAS2@150 Mhz)... Since I don't have DDR memory I'm not sure about that in your case, but you could try setting RAS/CAS latencies to 3.
                        Hope it helps...
