  • quick question...

G400 MAX on a new (soon to be ordered) Athlon DDR system...

am planning on running 2 Hitachi 19" CM772 Flat CRT's!

    had a look through the manual & online stuff aswell - am i right in saying that the max resolution that i can have on BOTH AT ONCE is 1280 x 960 (@ 120 & 75 Hz respectively) or 1152 x 864 (@ 140 & 95 Hz respectively) ?!?

would prefer better than 75Hz! don't know if it'll be a major issue on the chosen monitors!?!

    can i go higher (1600 x 1200)? how?

any ideas / comments / solutions!

    taaaaa

The G400 can handle a higher desktop res on the primary than 1280x960 but the second head is limited to that res.

75Hz refresh shouldn't be a problem for LCD displays have a greater persistance and the screen is drawn all at once instead of like a crt monitor where it's scanned top to bottom.

Typically 60 HZ refesh is flickerless on flat panels because of the above.

Oy (more like Doh!)... OK that depends on the monitor... I run my monitor at 1600x1200 @ 75 refresh and it's not an issue (bandwidth limited)... but have seen cheaper models... especially 19"ers that have a flicker issue at 75hz.

          Re: to clarify...

IMO, it will. 75 Hz is disturbing and I prefer 85 Hz.
If you go higher than 85 Hz the picture gets more and more fuzzy (don’t remember exactly why but it does) so stick with 85 Hz.

OK after looking at the specs I can see that this is a high quality monitor... Just haven't seen one in actual use. Post around various forums in hopes of finding someone running one and can test 75Hz refresh for you... to be honest I don't think it will be a major issue

TV... problem is he's going to be using DH in all it's glory and with a G400Max and it's a bit limited as to what can be displayed on the second head... if I'm not mistaken the highest res/refresh is 1280x960 @75Hz on the Max's second head. (my Max isn't installed at the moment so I can't test)

                Almost correct

Almost correct Greeby. I don’t have a G-400 so what does a smartass like me do? Download the manual and it says the maxs resolution on the second display is 1280x1024@75Hz
Depending on how he will use the second monitor running at 75 Hz will not be a problem if it’s not supposed to be used heavily. I can notice flicker @ 75 Hz and therefore I prefer 85 Hz (but not higher due to picture deterioration) Depending on how sensitive your eyes are (all murcers have supersensitive ) it may or may not be a problem.

Like I said it's all dependent on the monitor in question... which is not your case or situaion (nor mine). I do believe I did address the issues at hand properly and with consideration for what he proposes to do.

BTW... since your new around here just one word of advise, it's pronounced Grebe... no E or Y sound at the end. Got it?!
