I've been bringing my G400 DualHead to work lately (in an anti-static bag in a box from a network card) and I just got to work and took my G400 out of the box only to find a part has come off the card!!
I have not put the card in a pc yet, and am not willing to do so unitl I get some advice on:
a) What the missing part is, and
b) Whether or not it is safe to solder the part back on ourselves (the part appears to be completely undamaged, as does the board) and if so, which way does it go!!
Short of putting the card on the scanner here at work, I can't really get a pic of the card itself, but here's one I found (of a MAX - I couldn't find a picture of a vanilla G400 DH at such short notice) and I've indicated the part that's come adrift. It's the big silver bit (I know a bit about electronics - resistors, surface-mount-resistors, capacitors, etc, but I can't recognize what this is)
<img src="http://gallery.ausgamers.com/g400.jpg" alt="Bad bad bad bad bad bad bad. ">
It appears that the part was only glued to the pcb - should this be right?
Oh, the piece that fell off has "R2700BA9" on the top of it.
Any help would be <b>greatly</b> appreciated.
Thanks,
cerb
