Under win2k my 3dmark 2001 scores for my G550 have gone back to the levels I used to have for my overclocked G400. However I've also upgraded my motherboards bios and that certainly made games run smoother so it maybe a combination of things.

AGP x1 doesn't solve problem
Thanks for the tip about the new Tweak Util. I have set AGP to x1 but I still have screen corruption and unannounced reboots. XP tells me that there is a problem with the Matrox software and that it couldn't perform a draw operation.
I am now at the stage of buying a new graphics card unless someone can tell me what is happening here.

Motherboard is a SUpermicro P6SBA with latest BIOS running a Pentium III 1Ghz.
Matrox technical have noted that XP has not recognised my motherboard properly, so this may be related. However, there is nothing on the Supermicro site and Windows Update does not suggest any updated drivers (when XP is stable long enough!)

I have exact the same problem with my G400 locking up and Windows XP saying the driver is in a loop! So I uninstalled Powerdesk in safe mode with the add/remove programs - matrox graphics software. Then reboot in normal mode, install again, set AGP speed to single speed and another reboot -> lockup!! I also noticed that WinXP set the AGP speed back to 2x.
My motherboard: DFI P2BXL Rev D
Chipset: Intel 440BX
Does anyone have an answer to this problem, PLEASE?!?

Why don't you just set the max AGP speed to 1x in BIOS?
I do it this way.P4 Northwood 1.8GHz@2.7GHz 1.65V Albatron PX845PEV Pro
Running two Dell 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD
And of course, Matrox Parhelia | My Matrox histroy: Mill-I, Mill-II, Mystique, G400, Parhelia

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone makes AGP 2X and 4X cards, since there hasn't been a single game that takes advantage of them... ever.

G400 and XP
To be honest I've just given up trying to get XP to work and deleted it from the partition.
There is definitely a problem here with the way XP interacts with the G400 on certain systems, but neither Matrox or Microsoft have yet solved it. Has anyone discovered what is happening yet?
I have removed quite a few cards from my system and may try re-installing XP in this much simpler mode. However, why should I bother? Life's too short.

Macrotech you no the only one who has this problem, I gave up on XP as well, back to win98SE, until somebody solves the problem. All this stability and and flashy interface is worth nothing if its not compatible with your pressious Matrox.Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe (nForce2)>>AMD 2500+@ 3200+ (Barton)>>1.5 GB Ram (PC400)>>Leadtek GF 6800 12x6(385/850)>>Western Digital 120GB (WD1200JB) & Fujitsu 20Gb(MPF3204AT)>>Cambridge Audio azur 540A>>Razer Viper(Mouse)>>V7 V7S20PD 20.1 TFT Monitor>>NEC 3510A>>Lite-ON (40x10)>>Cherry CyMotion>>CanoScan N670U>>Epson Stylus Color 760>>Windows XP (SP2)

My "G400 16M sdrom sh ", have the same problem.
It can't set AGP 1x at WindowsXP.
If it works at AGP 2x , it is very unstable.
But I can set the AGP to 1x at WindowsMe.
So I am working at windowsme.
But the G400 can't work stable at AGP 2x is a very serious problem.
I am very happy to see this thread.
Because some people have the same trouble with me.
