This is how I had did my conversion to XP. I just upgraded from Win 2k to Xp I had already installed the video drivers but not the video tools though. Maybe this is a certain way that you have to do. Capturing is very important for me though because that means i have a useless capture card. I can't believe that Matorx hasn't released or don't plan to release video tools for XP that really sucks!!

I Installed 5.72 for win2k and w2kvt204 on my newly installed XP, with the .inf hack. Tuner works fine but I also can't capture. The record button on the PC-VCR remote is blank. What 2 do ?

you cant cap with the tv proggy with the final vt's. you have to use another proggy like vdub or avi io.

Any idea why I can't install v204 toold? Installer just quits and says it was interrupted before completion.

Disabled anti-virus & firewall no effect. of course running as admin.

            downloaded fresh version, no difference.

How do I force it to install??

All right...I created my new account, part of the administrator group, and reinstalled both 5.72 and VideoTools 2.04.
              I didn't have any intallation trouble !

Here is my configuration : WinXP Pro OEM French.
My card is a Marvel G400 PAL
My current desktop is 1280x1024x32, DualHead all disabled.

I don't have any other remote control-like software like MSN Messager (integrating NetMeeting I think) or PC Anywhere, which potentially take control of desktop, being a source of trouble for video capture software.

For those who wonder why they have no capture capabilities with VideoTools 2.04, it is perfectly NORMAL, Matrox removes capture from the PC-VCR from 2.02 beta to 2.04. A hack exists to have capture back in 2.04 final, see Desktop Video forum.

              See yaa !

I can't even INSTALL 204 much less hack it.

How do I hack the installation so install won't quit? Or why is it quitting.

Flashed the card bios last night, still nothing.

Do you attempt to re-install both drivers and after reboot, VideoTools on the same "true" admin account ?
Your color depth should not be 24 bit.
Quit MSN Messager before installing VideoTools (it is loaded at startup by default, see System tray icons), also exit any additional NetMeeting, PC Anywhere,...all stuff of that sort.

...Well, for short, what resident programs do you have at startup ?

                    Running tools under another account

I too have had problems with Tools running under different accounts. My solution (for Windows 2000) was to edit the shortcut to the PCVR to run under the administrator account. Just log into the account that you want to use, right click to get the properties for the shortcut to PCVCR and chose to Run As another user....

                      Hacked inf file for Win98

Is it possible for someone to supply a hacked inf file for Win98 so I can use the 6.72 driver?

Can someone help me on this? I have G400DH & RRG combo.

What can I expect from Win XP: TV-tuner, RGB/YUV capture, MJPEG, ....? Can someone explain procedure for RRG and combination of drivers, VT, patches, i.t.c. ?

I am confused about the procedure here. The 5.72 drivers are not for the Marvel. I updated to the Win2k drivers and have everything but capture. Does the procedure here give you capture? If so, could you indulge those of us who are obviously not on the level with most of you, and explain (simplistically) what needs to be done to use the hacked .inf file to make the Marvel card work? Thanks for your patience.

                            All right,

The driver is provided as a self-executable Zip, say w2k_572.exe or something like that. You need to open it with WinZip (or Winrar, WinAce....) to unpack it in a temporary directory.
This directory contains all the files needed for installation.
Among them, there is the famous .inf file which needs to be replaced by the "hacked" one provided above. Simply copy it in this temporary directory to overwrite the original one!
                            Run "setup.exe" and that's all !

You can also install the VideoTools. However, some people have problems to intall them. Be aware when you install:

                            - You must be on administrator account (you are de facto administrator if you use XP Home edition)
                            - Close all Remote control software like MSN Messager which is run by default each boot, check systray to be sure. (similar: PC-anywhere and like) These softs use video capturing capabilities, that leads to 'Hardware not available' when you try to run/install VideoTools with these softs runing.

Provided you follow these tips, you won't have any problem installing VideoTools 2.04 for Win2K on a XP machine.

I even successfully installed VT 2.10 for G450 on my Marvel G400 ! GREAT!

However, with final VT (2.04 or 2.10) capturing capabilities are removed from PC-VCR. You need a third-party software if you want to capture (VirtualDub). Moreover, Matrox no longer support MJPEG capture for Marvel G400 , so this capture mode is no longer available.
There is a "hack" though (another one) to get MJPEG capture back to Marvel G400, see Desktop Video forum and MURC downloads for information.

                            Good luck !

Hey! And what about RRG? Should same VT's and drivers work for my RRG + G400 combo?

Sorry, I have no idea 'cause I only have a Marvel. Ask Desktop Video forum for that.
