  • Getting 2x agp back with Matrox Mellineum G200

Ok, ever since ive upgraded to WinXP I cant seem to get 2x agp to work on this card. I used the tweak program listed on the Matrox site, I changed it and then reboot, it doesnt do it. Ive tried power strip but it just freezes every time i do it.
There are no options in the bios. Any Ideas. TIA!

When running your matrox AGP card on a BX motherboard at 150Mhz frontside bus, the AGP bus will run at 100Mhz. Since the AGP bus is only specced to operate at 66Mhz, it's very expected to make the videocard lock up the system when forced at 2x AGP. In fact, not many videocards can run stable (or at all) on a 100Mhz AGP bus.

But it's not a big deal at all, since 2x AGP doesn't help performance on the G400 in real world at all.

When you boot up your OS, the matrox driver will run a simple AGP texture test to determine the maximum speed the AGP aperture can run at. You should never force it to anything higher than what the driver set it at, only lower if the test doesn't notice some instability at a too high aperture speed. You can do this with MTSTU, which is in the files section on the matrox drivers page.

      dZeus,

      It´s a G200 we´re talking about.

hehe, oops... but the fact alone that it doesn't help a G400 should say sufficiently about the difference for the G200

Well, when I have it at any speed it doesn't work. At 100mhz FSB when the AGP is in spec I can't change it either.

The drivers detect whether it would be safe to run at AGP2x when the card is initialized. If it fails this test it's dropped back to AGP1x. Now the Card isn't solely responcible for not being able to run at 2x speeds as other devices induce bus noise and cause havok. I know you would like to force this... but it's not a smart thing todo... especially since there isn't diddle performance increase by doing so.

I think many G200's won't run at AGP x2. I know mine wouldn't run at x2 on either a Via MVP3 based board or my current 440BX one. My G400 MAX on the other hand defaulted to x2 on both without a hitch.
