  • old problem - most recent thoughts!

just upgraded 98se --> 2k & stumbled across the poor multi-monitor display previously discussed ++

just like so many in the past i want...

2 desktops (not 1 spread across two monitors!) with the option for separate resolutions etc & so that windows maximise to one screen only
& to be able to have the secondary monitor off to the left of the primary!

i've installed the latest drivers [5.72] but no luck... can someone let me know what the latest word is on full multi-display support in win2k?!?

i did a forum search but simply can't find anything recent (or with a fix)

    cheers

its in there. You have to do two things in order to get it to work. First is while installing enable the extra dualhead support there. Second is after installation is finished go into the dualhead properties, for dualhead multidisplay (iirc) enable "seperate resolutions and color depth for each display".

      no cigar...

under "DualHead Multi-Display" - "Change Settings" it only has the option to choose the position of your secondary display (to the right or below the primary)... i can't seem to find the option you mentioned!

btw - when i installed using quickdesk (i bypassed the auto-detect etc as previously mentioned & enabled the extra dualhead support then also) it installed two copies of my card (i believe as a work-around for the poor multi-display support in win2k)... but while one was "Matrox Millenium G400 DualHead" the other was "Matrox G400/G450 DualHead" - huh!?!

any furthers comments would be MOST appreciated!

      cheers again

The two devices is correct ... go to advanced settings and look under the DualHead tab.

          nup...

as you can see below i simply don't have the options you mention! the only advanced setting is the secondary display max resolution etc

          any more ideas?

i uninstalled / rebooted / reinstalled after the os upgrade, have i done something else stupid!

          hmmmmm...

You should see resolution options under the Multi-Display settings. Do you have clone enabled? If so, disable it.

P.S. You should enable "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" in your display settings.

              #####

clone is disabled (i'm not even sure if you can have 2 modes enabled at once - ie. multidisplay & clone together!)

the "extend desktop..." box isn't on my basic display properties either! all i get is one display showing up!

anyway - i'm gonna start from scratch AGAIN & see how i go this time!

                DONE...

i dunno what it was but it worked this time! maybe it was the fact that i didn't actually let windoze look for a driver (& then disable autodetect) when it first found the card (i just cancelled the process)!?!

thanks all for your help anyway...

                cheers

Ah ... now you can enjoy the power of Matrox. They've got DH down better than the rest.
