G400MAX Questions.......

Hey Everybody,

I was planning to bid for a G400MAX on eBay, and I had some questions. I have been poking around the forums looking for information, but I have not been able to find the relevant posts (but I know they are there!).

1. What does the 'R' stand for in the model number? For example, G4+DHMM4A32G vs G4+DHMM4A32GR? Does the 'R' stand for retail or refurbished?

2. Why do some G400MAXs have fans, and some don't. Is it because some of them are manufactured with a .18 die size?

Any information would be useful!

AFAIK all the G400MAXs come with an attached fan.

can't help you here but the 4A tells you that the card is a X4 AGP one!

I have seen pictures of a G400MAX (or claimed to be) on eBay without a fan.

looks like a G400 Vanilla, placed next to a MAX box ...

Seriously, all MAXes come with a fan, but there are ways to tweak the BIOS to let it run at MAX settings and even let it be identified as a MAX.

To me this looks like a rip off, just to get an additional price tag.

That auction is scary. "I can't prove that it works"? Riiight. How about "I fried the BIOS, but will claim ignorance."?

I agree, but some sellers will allow a refund if the product doesn't work. You just have to make sure of that BEFORE you bid!
