  • Replace fan on G400MAX?

    Hello all,

Is it possible to replace the cooling fan on my old G400MAX card? It makes more noise than my 3 80mm case coolingfans (@7V) together

I noticed there are 3 wires going from the fan to the header on the card. I suppose one of them (blue one?) is a kind of rpm signal. Can I just buy a new fan (which has no rpm signal) and replace the current one? Or do I need a special "matroxfan"?

just slap a 486 type fan on it and connect via molex ... the Max fan runs on 5vdc and cannot have the tach monitored via the card (blue wire)

    G400Max fan specs...

    40x40x7mm
    Avvid P# 1447122
    0.13a 5vdc 0.65w
    4.5-6.0 vdc range
    6k rpm 4.8cfm
    1.9mm H2O 0.075 inches H2O
    25dBa spl
fan speed can be measured via blue wire (tach out) and the red wire (+5vdc)

By the way, what's the used for the RPM# signal wire?
It seems there is no way to read this signal by software and the signal does nothing to the card (ie, the card still works as normal when the fan was removed).
