  • P4S333 and G400

    Hi

I am having problems with my new P4S333 and G400. After a few minutes my computer just freze.

I get this error when I reboot after a freze:

"Computer restarted after an unexpected shutdown"

"The display driver for Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead seems to be responsible for the system instability"

    Error signature:
    szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 102B0525042179102B
    szModName : G400DHD.dll szModVer : 5.12.1.1820 Offset : DE4A06EA

    My system:
    Asus P4S333 1004
    P4 1.8 Northwood
    256 MB Samsung PC2700 333 RAM
    G400 DH driver w2k_582
    SiS AGPIDE driver 1.09 Final
    WinXP

suggest you try the previous 5.72 drivers!

The previous 5.72 drivers has the same problem. I tried many different screen resolutions and refresh rates, no go.

I'd be tempted to try win2k and see if the problem goes away. Xp seems twitchy with video cards.

            Try this:

Goto add/remove programs. Select matrox software and uninstall. Reboot. When windows detects your video card, click cancel. Once in windows, run the setup for the 5.8 drivers, check the boxes that allow for overwriting perf. and previous settings. Once the setup has completed, allow it to reboot your system. You should be fine then.

My CPU/PCI Frequency is set to 100/33.

Same problem under AGP speed 1x, 2x and 4x.

What should my Chip Configuration in BIOS be?
              - Graphics Aperture Size is set to 32 mb.
              - AGP is set to 4x.
              - AGP Fasty Write Capability is disabled.
              - Video Memory Cache Mode is UC(can be set to USWC).

I never had this problem with my old Asus P3V4X motherboard.

I tried uninstalling the driver -> reboot -> and installing 5.82 again -> no go

Does anyone know where 2K and XP differs in the way they interface with videocards ?

Is 2K and XP different in terms of the way drivers are programmed/written ?

                  Good question Kosh.

The fact that it runs across all Video cards rules out the video card manutacters. There doesn't seem to be a definite solution to it either from what I've seen over at Via arena. The great hope at one time was that it was a power problem however a lot of people have changed power supplys and still got the problem. Taking out one memory stick seems to work for lots of people so it maybe the way the memory controler works.
Perhaps will be fixed under winxp se???

Now I tried a different power supply -> no luck.

I also tried moving my memory block around -> no luck.

I guess I have to try win2k now.

I’m getting tired of using my 5 yeah old Trio64 PCI graphic card

Some new m/b:s only support 1.5 volt AGP cards. Your mobo could very well be one of them, and I´m not sure G400 will run on that.

I don´t know if this is the case, but it might be. One of the BB:s should know.

I was sure it was a 1.5 volt AGP issue(my g400 was the first model) so I ordered a new G550.

After reinstalling WinXP 2 times and having the same freeze I gave up.

Now I am running Win2k and the only problem is getting DVDMax to work.

Try setting Graphics Aperture Size to 256mb.
