  • Overclocking parhelia ?

would this be possible ? and if so would it done by jumpers etc.. or by some program ?

i was just thinking if we could overclock the gpu to say 325mhz and the sam to say 310mhz how much difference that would make or even higher ?

I donĀ“t think it will be possible to clock parhelia that high, Skilled overclockers might be able to push it to 260mhz tops.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

I've yet to see someone overclock their Sam... how high did you go, and how much more serious did he get?

      Sorry, just teasing

How can you even expect ANYONE to be able to make guesses about overclocking a card that almost nobody has?

I would guess, you won't be able to since the chip is big!

But its been rumoured they've pulled the clock speed back to play on the safe side. The 256MB version might even be clocked higher, so the 128MB would at least overclock to that.

Plus we've possibly got another cooling solution coming Soon™ from Maggi!

Maggi has a lot to live up to from last time, hope he's up to the challenge

That is logical, pace. If the 256MB is clocked higher then should be able to get the 128Mb up there. Hopefully thermal take will come out with one of their great heatsink/fan for it!

Haig already mentioned that you would be able to clock the P higher with a bigger HSF.

                      thermaltake great???

                      oh please...

Haig has stated that there will be no features on the 256mb card that would make it attractive to a gamer over the 128mb card. he also said there (at this point in time) was no plan to make it a higher clocked card.

There are two things to overclock on Parhelia - the Parhelia chip itself and the memory. Memory can go higher, but it's bandwith is already tremendous. Probably the only situation where it would make some sense to clock it higher is when one works with DualHead at high res (1600x1200 or above) or TripleHead at 3840x1024. Other than that it is pure art.

The Parhelia chip, when clocked higher, would give some extra performance.

Now note that at the default speed the whole card is a really hot stuff - literally. Bigger fan and heatsink are essential if you want to overclock. The optimum cooling system should also blow some air to all the memory chips.

as it has already been said by a few sources the memory is 3.3ns Infineon and will at least run at 300Mhz, i think 310Mhz without any additional cooling, and even more will be possible.
i have no idea but i will think the core will probably do 240 without any additional cooling and up to 300 with some crazy cooling!

i think the memory underclock already shows that stability is much more important for matrox than some % more speed. it is probably the same situation with the core.

so i predict 240/310 for most MURCers and 270/340 for Maggi

                            no matrox, no matroxusers.
