Are you sure you've being working with comps for eight years??
And that is why I said if it doesn't work, post back! STEP 1 IN DIAGNOSING FAULTS: establish severity of fault.

Also, the tranny comparison, according to Deed, maybe the solonoid that kruzin mentioned is infact the bios.

      WRONG!!

      Step 1: REPRODUCE fault.
If fault cannot be reproduced, have customer reproduce it in front of you. Hard to do when the system is not in front of you, and your system does not exhibit said fault, huh?

Why fix it if it isn't severe?? Waste of time and money. I don't wanna see the fault. I want a description of the fault. If ctl-alt-del dont work, we know its severe. To reproduce the fault all he has to do is use the computer, its not like it only happens after 20.29456 minutes or after he pressed 20 keys at a time, the fault is reproduced by turning it on and using it.

            Like an incompotent tech?

Wake up. Reproducing the error/fault is the best way to figure out where the problem is.

Hey my cars paint is powery, crazed, cracked and chipped beyond all recognition. Do I invest in a Maaco Supreme paint job when the car has 400k miles, about to break in two because of rust and valued at $100.

No, it's not. Because I cannot reproduce the error myself, it does not matter if it happens every boot or once a month for that user. If that system is not in front of you, and you cannot reproduce it on your system, it becomes a more difficult issue, doesn't it? So where do you get off slagging on the people who say they have not seen this problem?

Now, again, either contribute something usefull to the thread, or fork off. You are not helping anyone here, you are just being an argumentative mini, with nothing worthwhile to contribute.

Since most customers can't or won't make a note of the fault or descibe it properly you need to see it first hand.
Also quite often the error message generated isn't the same or a blind alley.
This is also ignoring the fact that sometimes it's another bit of hardware or software thats been installed.
This hardware/software is causing another bit of hardware/software to fall over.
Still you've worked eight years and you know all this.

In my mind it is no more difficult if the computer is 1000 miles away. I simply ask them to do what i would do if I was standing there. CTL-ALT-DEL is the FIRST thing i'd do.
Take it easy, I mean, i wasn't dissing no one. I was simply saying instead of all this crap, lets fix his problem. If ctl-alt-del doesn't work, we move onto next question: has he installed software/hardware in the same timeframe, ie deeds bios troubles.

Sometimes errors are a fault between chair and keyboard

CAD is one way of checking the machine has not completely frozen i suppose.

Having to extract the info you need to assess the problem from someone stressed on the other end of the phone who wants a replacement card yesterday is IRRITATING.

Yea...and in your mind, video card drivers are akin to an auto transmission.

This thread was dead for 2 weeks, and your very first post at MURC was to bring it back to the top, and critisize everyone who said they did not have the problem described. Go back and read your first post, and see how degrading to other users you where there.

If you had paid any attention to the thread in the first place, you would have noticed the problem was already solved by reverting to the previous drivers, and no further problems/complaints have surfaced since then. So what was the purpose of dredging this thread back up when the problem is already handled? The difference between running the 5.82 drivers and the 5.84 drivers is negligable, and if the 5.82 drivers are working for him, case closed.
No reason to make a stink about it weeks later.

If I could nuke your account, I would be more than happy to. You obviously have no interest in being truely helpful here. You are just stirring up stuff that has no need to be stirred, and we have no use for that here.

FWIW, I installed the Beta of 5.82 and I started getting the occasional BSOD referring to G400.DLL (I think it was DLL). I was going to uninstall the transmission and press CTRL-ALT-DEL on my neighbours fishtank to see if that cured it, but as it happens I never got around to it before the next drivers came out, and they work fine.
I still get the occasional BSOD, which I think is more likely my new 256mb DIMM not liking running at 145mhz rather than anything else.

Oh, and Kruzin? Do you mind not posting in a way that implies Mini-Murcers are a subspecies of humanity and not worthy to lick the boots of Murcers or Super-Murcers? I'm sure that wasnt your intention, but it can easily come across that way.

I'd always thought of MURC as being a place where length of membership or number of posts wasnt a factor in being right, wrong or better than someone else. I hope I'm wrong.
