If you have the higher memory but no fan you have a board that could have been clasified as a max but did not pass Matrox's tests there fore was not labled, clocked or given a fan to be a max. You may just have a G400 with better memory chips on a max PCB that is clocked like a G400.
Life is what you make it. Boy did I make it suck!!

The Max PCB is the same as a standard G400.
The cards are identical in every way, except for the clock speeds, RAM speeds, and fan.
      Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

The card is clocked at 150/200 by default (checked with PowerStrip). Retail package that says G400MAX, bought from local dealer . Don't remember what it says on the PCB. No fan, the heat sink is though larger than in the pictures of the MAXes in this thread.
