G400MAX + ASUS A7M266D problem

I just changed the G450 that was in my dual AMD system with a G400MAX G4MDHA32G (AGP 2x version).
When I hit the power button computer posts but when going into Windows XP display garbles and freezes so I need a restart.
After fiddling with AGP driving control settings and fast writes I've noticed that with different settings card "dies" in a different way.

Well I've lost my patience with it and simply changed the card for my MAX that is G4MDH4A32G (AGP 4x) and it booted right away...
So right now I have both systems working but would really like to know how to fix that problem... I wrould really like my agp4x MAX to return to me... I love that baby!

Any ideas?

Did you try forcing AGP 1X with the MAX?

I've tried disabling AGP4x in BIOS, but since I cannot boot Win XP I also can't use MTSTU to force any settings... Bummer!
