  • One day as ATI user, already longing for Matrox

I bought yesterday Ati All In Wonder Radeon 8500DV.
I have been using Matrox G400 MAX with Matrox Rainbow Runner G series for years and here's what you get when you
    go for Ati multimedia card:

    - lousy tv image (noise)

    - clipped tv image (I'm missing about 5 % of picture in the borders)

    - slow channel changing

    - inadequate and confusing manual

    - driver hell (driver update breaks functionality)

+ able to capture tv in windows xp, matrox never finished their rainbow runner capture drivers for window xp (i'm so bitter)

So the question to ask then is why did you change?

I changed because matrox failed (i know they tried)
to develop RRG tv/video capture drivers for windows xp.

Second reason was that Matrox said there will be no Marvel with Parhelia GPU and my G400 MAX was doing 7 fps in Grand Theft Auto 3

I was in the same boat as you. However I ended up getting the AIW 8500 128.
I know the DV has a different tuner than the 128, but I'm getting a very clean image, no clipping, and instantaneous channel changing.
I have not read the manual, so I can't comment on that.
Analog video on the Radeon is very inferior to my Matrox and 3Dfx Voodoo3. However I am running DVI to my Dell 1702 (pure bliss).
Only one driver problem I have, after playing an MPEG2 stream explorer.exe will crash randomly within the next 24 hours. A very minor problem, just annoying, since it really doesn't cause any damage.
With regards to rage3d.com, I'm on there everyday. It's actually a very friendly place. Note quite MURC though.
