I recently read an review on the Shuttle SS51 minicase at Anandtech. I want to get it and put a Parhelia in it. My question is. . .can it support a P? It has a 200 watt power supply. . .but it can handle a P4 2.53 and Geforce 4 TI4600 just fine. . .so the P shouldn't be a problem?

Can this handle the Parhelia??

200watts is definatly not enough.
Not just for a Parhelia, but for most modern computers period when you start adding drives, fans, sound card, NIC, etc.Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

I'm sorry to disagree with you Mr. Kruzin but it seems to be enough for a system with a P4@2.4 Ghz, Geforce 4 Ti4600, 30 GB Hard drive, 12X DVD ROM, and Floppy. At least for the ppl at Firingsquad.com. . .
The quote at the Anandtech article also lead me to believe that this PS could handle a P. . .
"The power supply doesn't provide an incredible amount of current on its power rails, but it should be enough to cover the needs of anything you can throw at the SS51. The 200W power supply delivers 10A on the +12V and 20A on the +5V rails.
The most impressive part of the power supply is obviously its size and its ability to deliver enough current to a power hungry CPU like a 2.53GHz Pentium 4."
My question is. . .does the P take as much power as a Geforce 4 Ti4600? If it doesn't then it will work. Thank you all much as I REALLY want this case AND a P. If not I guess I'll have to take a Geforce 4 .Last edited by BCompDude; 2 August 2002, 21:15.My "Baby": Shuttle SS51G, P4@2.26 Ghz 533 FSB, 80 GB Western Digital Caviar "Special Edition" Hard Drive 7,200 RPM w/8 MB Cache, 512 MB Corsair PC2700 with Heat Spreaders, Pioneer DVD Drive (w/sexy slot load ), and of course a Matrox Parhelia Retail Vid Card

The stated minimum requirement on Matrox's site is 300watts.
They listed that in their specs for a reason.
You may be able to get away with less if you are not running a lot of equipment. But if you are like me, running multiple hard drives, multiple CDs, and several other cards, it's likely to give you problems.
If you are going to run a stripped down system with 1 hard drive, a CD, a video card, and a sound card, and nothing else, you just might get away with it.
-edit-
You could always also add a stronger power supply to that case. I'm sure there is something availble that would fit in it, if you just gotta have that case.

Well I'll try it with the "standard" PS that comes in it and if it can't handle it then I'll upgrade if I can. If not then I have to choose between the case and the P. Ahhhhhhhh, life is not fair!My "Baby": Shuttle SS51G, P4@2.26 Ghz 533 FSB, 80 GB Western Digital Caviar "Special Edition" Hard Drive 7,200 RPM w/8 MB Cache, 512 MB Corsair PC2700 with Heat Spreaders, Pioneer DVD Drive (w/sexy slot load ), and of course a Matrox Parhelia Retail Vid Card

Well, the thing with those tiny Shuttle cases is that you *won't* be able to add extra CD roms, PCI cards, etc. because there simply isn't room — 1 DVD/CD-RW drive, 1 hard drive (most people recommend against 2 because of heat issues), 1 PCI card and 1 AGP slot and that's your lot.
GT98 and BCompDude, I plan to do the same as you, so I'd be very interested in what you find out. You know, whether when you burn DVD-Rs if your monitor goes blank
(& also how noisy your total system is as well)

Lol, I just ordered mine as well, I had myself on thier authorization list. GT98 I would be extremely grateful if you told me how your P runs on it. Is the 200 watts enough? I think so but want to make sure before I purchase the P. Thanks bud.My "Baby": Shuttle SS51G, P4@2.26 Ghz 533 FSB, 80 GB Western Digital Caviar "Special Edition" Hard Drive 7,200 RPM w/8 MB Cache, 512 MB Corsair PC2700 with Heat Spreaders, Pioneer DVD Drive (w/sexy slot load ), and of course a Matrox Parhelia Retail Vid Card

Using a PS under the specs stated by Matrox will will in the long run greatly reduce the life expectency of the PS. That is if it doesn't cause problems when you add another periphial or two...
How many times have we seen peeps going for cheap, add something hardware or software that causes the problem and then turn around and blame the card (Parhelia in this case) wasting everyones time trying to diagnose the problem.
But then there is this: Why are you spending your hard earned money for a Parhelia ($$$) and then going on the extreme cheap for a PS?! What an oxymoron."Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind." -- Dr. Seuss
