  • parhelia and garbled BIOS

Does anyone else have this problem? When I go into the BIOS, it is all garbled. Also, as the computer boots up, the first screen you get is garbled too.

    What MB do you have?

I have a somewhat similar problem. On an Asus P4B533+Parhelia the bootlogo appears garbled....latest bios and everything...any solution in sight?

I also have this problem. The Post screen and the BIOS screen are all garbled. Once you get past that, the graphics are fine in DOS and in Windows 2000.

        I have a Gateway Performance 750.
        Processor is a Pentium 3 750 Mhz
        Motherboard is an Intel 440BX

        Thanks,
        Zitch

The Parhelia is in a Dell Dimension 4100 so I don't really know what exact motherboard it is. I'll be moving the P into a new computer soon, so I'm not real worried about it. I was just wondering if other people had the same problem.

Well, I assume you have an adequte power supply (+300W) in your system.

I would try in another system and see if the problem still exists.

If it does, then I would contact Matrox technical support.

This isn't a PS issue but one where the MB (BIOS) incorrectly reads Parhelia's BIOS. I reported this issue some two months ago (or so) to Matrox.

              ....

Was just informed that I could post this up (will be included in the next BIOS revision readme)

The BIOS of some computers may not properly handle information
from the Matrox BIOS and, as a result, you may experience problems
with VBE display modes. If you experience problems with VBE
display modes, it's most likely to be with mode 101h (101
hexadecimal: 640 x 480, 256 colors). This mode is sometimes used
to display the logo of the computer manufacturer immediately after
the computer restarts. If this mode is improperly handled, the
image on the screen may be garbled. Problems with VBE display
modes don't affect any software that uses a Matrox display driver
              (for example, Windows software).

If you experience problems with a garbled display immediately
after you restart your computer, contact the manufacturer of your
computer for a possible software update for your computer BIOS.

If an update isn't available for your computer BIOS, you may be
able to configure the BIOS of your computer to use a different
display mode or to display a blank screen when you restart your
computer. For example, on some computers, the "Boot Time
Diagnostic Screen" setting determines what (text or full-screen
logo) is displayed immediately after your computer restarts.

So the basic idea is, if the mobo manufacturer doesn't fix it, Matrox will?

Matrox cannot fix another manufactures BIOS problems. What this means is for all who have this problem to contact the manufacture of their MB and complain... this leverage will push them to fix it.

Have you tried mailing the asian support? I've noticed that they mostly respond the same day, or the day after, while the North American ASUS support can take several weeks.

The only problem is I didn't see any e-mail address for Asia...if you see any let me know, the only e-mail address I saw was for the North American section.
