Yeah Maggie, you might think you're "pretty fine," but I would rather not "bare" with you either.

Now, how about playing Eine Kleine Nacktmusik?

BTW, 1600x1024 is supported already. I'm using it on a regular basis. How about 1920x1200 for a good one? That's one of the resolutions I like to use with my MAX.. should do even better with Parhelia. And there's no real reason, with all the cash we are paying for P, that each and every one of these should not be supported. If it's really a professional card, it should act like it.. a professional card should have xFree86 drivers too.

Some of these resolutions should be added just to be competitive with the other 3D titans.

I voted on the resolutions I would like to see. The HDTV resolutions would be nice as would these:

1280x768
1600x900

I would think a 720x480 resolution wouldn't hurt either.

I would like to be able to create a custom resolution like I can do with Matrox Technical Support Tweak utility and my beloved G400max.

I do not use big monitors for the moment (i have only an old 15" monitor+ 25" TV) but I like very much matrox card (G200-G400max) and software (powerdesk+MTSU) with their 2D fantastic features but i need more 3D power with matrox image quality (fantastic color especially in Direct3D)....

My default resolution at the moment is very personal... 912x684..((1024-800)/2+800) x ((768-600)/2 +600).......so.....
PLEASE custom resolution and win98 drivers........

You'd need to talk with Microsoft about that. That's the .NET framework using a fair amount of memory. But don't worry about that, if the system needs memory the .NET garbage collector will kick in and free some memory, and it really depends on how much ram you have, and if you can afford a Parhelia.....

It's actually a good sign that .NET claims such a large chunk of memory, see it like having to pay a large amount of taxes (for those who don't get it: I would love to pay a large sum of taxes, just a sign how wealthy you are hehehe)

Kruzin beat me to it..
You cannot please everyone since you cant add whichever resolutions everyone wants which is why i believe Matrox used to allow the user to set his own res. It made me happy to customise a res other than all these res : 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x768, 1280x960, 1280x1024, 1600x900, 1600x1024, 1600x1200, My monitor supports 1600x1280 :P my g400 had no problems running it at that res.

Matrox drivers are worse than SiS.... or so it seems. As someone said earlier, it's supposed to be a professional card. Problem is, atm it's not.

Hi all,

from a recent posting by 'Glenn Booth' on alt.comp.periphs.videocards.matrox:

*/snip

1280*960 is in the .inf file, but it's commented out.

To make it available, Open the inf file in the unpacked
driver file set using a text editor. Now uncomment
the last line (the one that references 1280*960). Cut
this line out, and paste it into the line above the
1280*1024 resolution line, so that it looks like this:

Please forgive the wrapped lines - I have a broken autowrap! When you do
this, keep the lines continuous; you'll see what I mean when you open
the inf file.

Then go to [AddReg.VidParms] and uncomment the last 3 lines. The last 3
lines should look like this:

HKR,,Graphic.1280.960,0x00000001,\
3c,00,3c,00,e0,a5,01,00,60,00,70,00,38,01,01,00,03 ,00,24,00,00,00,00,00,
\
55,00,56,00,10,44,02,00,40,00,a0,00,e0,00,01,00,03 ,00,2f,00,00,00,00,00

Now save the file.

Now when you install Powerdesk, it should pick up the support for
1280*960 and make that mode available.

Hope this helps,

Regards,

Hmm, yes.

I hadn't seen your original post.

Credit where credit's due. I'm just a little surprised that there wasn't a link to that info earlier in this thread, although the real question must be why the apparently supported resolutions are not already available without hacking the .inf;

Users: "We want more resolutions now!"
Matrox CS: "Register your interest with the sales team"
Users: "We want more resolutions now!"
Sales Team: "Ah! Overwhelming interest. Hardware team!"
Hardware: "Yep. Supported in hardware! Driver team!"
Driver Team: "Hmm. Doable? Programmer!"
Programmer: "Why the hell weren't these enabled in the first place?"

I can't understand why Matrox reduced the selection of 'custom' resolutions. Has anyone tried the other listed resolutions? Any thoughts?

3072 x 1280 (Triple LCD"s in portrait mode tilted 90 degrees)

So far with software-based solutions like PivotPro, with separate desktops you can at least tilt your multi-monitors into portrait mode - very useful for minimizing horizontal eye-travel by 33%. Trouble is that software based solutions like the PivotPro software add latency and sluggishness to the display since some translation is having to happen and its burdening the CPU. I'm not holding my breath but a hardware-accelerated (read: done inside the Parhelia GPU) of a 3072x1280 triplehead desktop utilizing three LCD's tilted 90 degrees would be a godsend to those of us that have witnessed how much more "VISUALLY CONSCIOUS" one is of a triple-display in portrait mode.
