i don't really appriciate being told i should have my ass kicked for purchasing a card that i am so far really enjoying, and is so far probably the best all around video card i have ever used. and i have used most of the NVidia and ATI product line.

also if Kyle is having so many problems getting the .NET framework and the P drivers installed (two of the easiest programs in the world to set up), i don't see how he can install all the software he uses for his reviews. Perhaps Steve (or even his wife??) does it for him.

Well, gotta jump to the defense of Kyle. I do have to say, I find it quite humerous to see how everybody here falls over each other as soon as Kyle says the M or the P word. Anyways, back to the topic. I dont know the system he has been playing with and i do know there isnt much easier to do than to install the .Net framework. No installation options, just go, finish and reboot. Driver installation was less than 1 minute here and it has been working great ever since.
However, this afternoon i had to install the .Net framework at work on a W2KSP3 machine for some piece of software (unrelated to Matrox or vidcards), so i downloaded it from the MS site since its not in the Windows Update for W2K. I extracted the archive to a temp dir (downloaed is a selfextracting archive) and proceeded to install. But to my suprise, as soon as i started the setup, it bombed out on me. As i had to find out, on that particular machine, there is no friggin way to get the .Net framework installed. It just won't do it. It just bombs out with some weird message that doesnt make any sense, there are no options given. It just wont go. If he had a similar experience, than i very well understand his frustration. Had that been my first experience/encounter with .Net, i too would have said fsck it. Had that been my experience with .Net prior to Parhelia, i might have thought twice about getting it since its drivers depend on it. So lets not jump the gun and flame him just cause he says something about our precious lil toy. Flaming him because he says something about Matrox/Parhelia is just as bad as him flaming Parhelia cause its matrox.

Check out my attachment...all my Windows updates where done via Update site and I'm running Windows 2000SP2. I know for a fact that if you run the Windows update in XP it has .Net Software there for download.

Though I would find it very comical if he tried to install it on a Windows 98 Machine

I installed .Net framework as well as the SP2 for it through Windows Update for my XP machine, which is the machine from my sig. No problems.
So first thing i checked when i had install it at work, was windows update. It was NOT listed anywhere. It may be cause the box was running SP3, it may some weird other reason, i dont know. It just wasnt there, else i wouldnt have bothered trying to do it manually.

Hmm. I was talking to someone earlier today who had installed W2K SP3 & .net SP2 and had problems. Mental memo, check into this more thoroughly before installing .net SP2 here. Of course I don't have [P] drivers installed.

Afterburn: If you read my post further up you will see me saying that.... The fact that the .Net framework doesn't install perfectly on every machine isn't exactly a major shock... We are talking about a new MS technology (which usually is released in what is known as 0.01 beta ) after all.
But since MS says they are betting they're entire business on .Net you can assume it will be pretty dominant in the Windows world and thus it's pretty logical for Matrox to use it, since it apparently eases driver programming.
But the point here is Matrox did the logical thing and Kyle's problem is with MS, NOT Matrox and thus he gets flamed...

I must say you people are as bloodthirsty as Kyle.

Can't you both just stop chomping at the bit for the moment?

Stop bashing Kyle's technical ability. He is more than competent. But he acts like a child when it suits him.

I am sure he had trouble because of .NET, and I'm sure Micro$oft's latest baggie of tricks could be enough to drive any one of you insane if it happened to not work correctly, since MS products are all so easy to repair and remove ( catch the sarcasm? ).

So he blamed Matrox. big deal.
Just ignore him. I find that works best for me.

Incidentally, his hold on the hardware world's attention has suffered a traumatic collapse with his removal of the General Mayhem section of the [H]ardForum, so expect him to become another Thomas Pabst - Lots of articles, lots of page hits, less influential than he thinks.

Kyle would probably be pissed if he saw me typing this because he hates Thomas Pabst. Come to think of it, he has vendettas against a lot of respectable ( more or less ) folks on the net.

So don't expect him to act civil. It'a not in his programming.

                    1. Kyle really doesn't know his stuff. He comes off okay, but anybody with a well-developed bullshit meter gets annoyed with him after a while.

                    2. Acting like a child "when it suits him" is completely unprofessional, and takes away from any potential competency he may have.

To me, those two statements are quite juxtaposed.

technical ability? anyone could have the technical abilities required to test hardware like [H] (and many other review sites, for that matter) does. lemme see, you plug everything in, install the OS, drivers and test software, then run the tests and make some pretty graphs. if he has technical ability, he certainly doesn't demonstrate it very well. some of the stupidest people i have ever met demonstrate much more technical ability than Kyle ever does.

as far as competency goes, he has demonstraited repeatedly that he isn't that competent. he has posted news pieces full of conclusions that are completely contrary to publicly known information (even information straight from the horses mouth).

so what if he can overclock computers and use a dremel and some paint. both freaking idiots and small children can overclock computers pretty well anymore. and the usage of power tools and paint is one thing that is practically as American as apple pie.

the only real difference between Kyle and any other person in this country is that Kyle has a soapbox that he stands on and a bigger microphone that he speaks into. this does not make him technically competent. nor does it excuse his childish behavior.

I don't get where you can saying the removal of GenMay has left him with a Traumatically smaller market or what not. Most of the postings there were general Bullshit chit chat stuff that generally didnt have anything to do with computers. Most of the people posting there where in the 16-20 year old age group and the last time I checked most of them can't afford go out an buy a $400 dollar piece of computer equipment every 6 months. Plus with the major problems it was causing (hell I think it had something like 500 million postings to it over the years ) it was in Kyles and Steve's best intrest to shitcan it and get rid of all the spam/BS that it had there.

...well in my experience, human stupidity is infinite... but without it, life would be pretty boring...

                            More important:

                            Java - cowboy for coffee
                            Nubian - an Ethiopian goat
How can you possibly take anything seriously?
                            Who cares?

For someone that you have such a low opinion of, all the HOCP bashers on here certainly do seem to know alot about Kyle, and spend a great deal of time on his site. Maybe his abrasive style is why so many of you are drawn to the site and why he is still around.

I would have to agree with him when he basically says the ATI 9700 demolishes P. in every department. At the same pricepoint the decision is a no brainer. As a Matrox fan for years I wish this wasn't the case, but once you lose the bias, brand loyalty, and use logic...facts is facts

The problem that people have with the site is this

A: There was some very shaddy things going on with the NDA back in April when the specs for the card where released. [H]ardOCP leaked the info about 9 hours before they where supposed too

B: Then he through a temper tamtrum when Matrox didnt send him a review card

C: Due to M not sending him a card, There was blanent negative reporting/comments of reviews when they hit the net and it is still going on, all with out him testing card.

D: Him ordering a Parhelia from Matrox under an assumed name and address...which is a bit odd since its a bitch to have an assumed Credit card number to go along with that assumed info. According to his post on Here he should have had the card back when it first hit the market back in late June/ Early July.

I'll admit that I check out the web page every day and read the Forums there..you know I do live in Free Country the last time I checked....
