Loud? How is it possible that you can hear over the PS's fan or any other fan for that matter that may be in your system? Actually I'm driving at this so hard not because I enjoy it but rather because I have a feeling that there might be something seriously wrong, manufacturing flaw (more like an Oops) which has been reported by another beta tester. I'm simply trying to get at the truth instead of comlaining about something that could possibly be fixed quick and easy

Maniac, if being straight up and technically accurate is your definition of being a zealot then you really don't want to know my definition of a the way your acting. Matter of fact I'd like to see you answer as many questions as I do and not come off pleasing everyone all the time

Greebe, I believe he can hear the P's fan because he went out of his way to make his current system as quiet as possible - after all, he builds systems for audio engineering. So h should have golden ears as well, which might explain things

and I setup and calibrated recording studios and AV centers once upon a time. That doesn't answer the question. Btw this might sound odd to you but I'm not giving him a hard time and there is a legit reason for me asking the same thing over and over and over

I got you the first time, Greebe, I just pointed out that he stated that he made his systems VERY quiet, so I think if he would NOT hear the P's fan, something would be amiss

hrmm... just to see how loud the P's fan on my system is i uplugged all my case fans, left it so that i had only the processor and PS fans running (PSU is an Antec... nice quiet fans... the procs are P3 1ghz running intel retail fans, the fans are not as quiet as they could be, but still not bad.). i could distinguish the P's fan when the case was open, and if i was near it... once i got my ears more than a couple feet away from the case it was almost impossible to tell that it was even running.

if i was running a water cooled rig (Testjoe, i would be interested in seeing how you are cooling the water, as most rigs use several 80 or 120mm fans mounted either externaly or pretty close to it) i definatly wouldn't be able to hear the fan in the P...

As testjoe pointed out, it is a small fan and has to run at higher RPM, so the noise is high pitched - really the only reason i was able to distinguish it is everything else in the case is relatively low RPM and has a much lower pitch. it wasn't all that loud and would have been quieted with the side panel.

I can hardly call stock Intel HSF 'quiet', especially for use in situations where noise is unwanted.

depends on which processor it came with. the ones on the slot 1 P3 800 in another system is fairly quiet. the ones on the S370 1ghz chips in my system right now are not tremendously silent.

I have the Shuttle SS51G and the only thing I can hear is my P fan. Its not loud at all and it doesn't bother me. Its just that the Shuttle case only has two fans, and they are virtually silent. So I can definetely understand where the poster is coming from. . .except it doesn't bother me.

                    hey testjoe,

I was just wondering if you could do me a favor and post some measurements...
if you could tell me the dimmensions of the GPU,

The distance across between the vertically aligned memmory chips

The distance from the top of the AGP interface (not including the part that fits in the slot) and the bottom of the silver "thingy" at the (top) of the board (bottom in your picture)

and finally the distance diagonally between the screw holes for the HSF assembly.

Inches mm or cm is all fine and if you know of any capacitors etc in the chip area that are equal to or taller then the chip i would love to know too. Thanks in advance and estimates are fine i don't need precise numbers ... yet!
