    - Actually, i feel that Matrox should better ATI and Nvidia by having Open Source Drivers. Thats probably the best possibility for developing new, fast, stable, inexpensive drivers. But i think all companies should go Open Source. I know it may not be a possibility but just wishfull thinking. -

Leaked drivers does not at all equal "free beta testing." All it yields is noise. There is a bunch of polemics and expletives yelled at whatever company wrote them, and any possibly useful information is lost in the quagmire. Headaches, nothing more.

Well if they're real leaked drivers, you might be correct.
But looking at those ATI / NVidia leaks I have a strong feeling that those mosty are "on-purpose" leaks to get a general feedback. Only two of the leaks I know had a real "leaked"appearance as they didn't come with an installer, lacke support for OGL and/or other functionality.
You can see problems suddenly resolved in the next leak after they were posted on Rage3D, e.g.
And thing like the random crash bug with Mozilla can occur even with extensive beta-testing because you simply cannot have enough beta-testers to test every possible combination of hard-softwares out there in the wide entropic windows world.

Of course it would be more honest to release those as "unsupported betas".
But we named the *dog* Indiana...

Yeah both MURC and Matrox need to ligthen up.

ANd just because the card SUCKS @ 3D now all the mods and such are getting defensive about Matorx.

Tough, get real, this is the internet.

I dont give suff I know out while under NDA (I have been under NDA a few times), but if something gets out dont try and cover it up so much that it looks like you are playing police.

ITs a DRIVER not some full blown game. The driver will be free any way. Look at the nVidia detonator drivers, they seemt to be leaked regularly... prolly delibertly by nVidia.

I have not lost much respect for Matrox, but I have lost alot of respect for MURC and one of their mods (you know who you are, Mr-Know-It-All) over the Parhelia issue.

            Oh golly.
I've lost the respect of a Geek I don't even know.
            I'm shattered.

I never tried to "cover up" anything. If I did try to create a cover-up, I did a really poor job of it, with that sticky post I made about the subject.
As far as "looking like the police"....well, that's what a mod does. Keeps the order, and enforces the rules. That's all I did.
            Deal with it.
If you don't like how I mod, take it up with Ant.

not you! I like you Kruzin...

ANother mod... but its not important...

Anyway, I am just stating, that we all need to come to terms with the "loss"... alot of us (including me) were amped up that the Parhelia would hammer everything else out there, but sadly it did not, I simply think peopl need to not try and protect Matrox soo much, they should have not pimped the gameing side as much as they did.

ANyway, i have only had 8 hours sleep on the weekend, so am in a bit of a weird mood.

                Sorry.
I though you where bashing me for stopping the leaked drivers being posted here.

There's order and rules here? Wow, where have I been

Seriously though, I'm just curious about one thing, How did this happen? I've been a long time Matrox user and they've never leaked out a driver. Released 'unsupported' betas, sure... but never a leaked one. This one is most assuredly leaked though. Since I'm sure Matrox wouldn't allow a driver out that has the problems this does with NWN (haven't tried any other games)

Actually when I first saw the post I was thinking that maybe their webpage designer had been fired and he's the one that leaked the driver. (anyone else notice that they changed their website? Now instead of having drop down menus, they have an underlying menu that goes horizontal.)

There has been a very few of times that stuff got leaked out.
A couple of those times where "approved" leaks, and those remained posted (as I am told when a leak has been "approved").

We don't know where this leak came from yet, but Matrox is interested in finding out where it came from, so they can plug the leak. If they figure out where it came from, that's one less person under NDA.

All I know is that the BBz here have been praised numerous times for never have being found to be the source of any "unapproved" leak....

                      heh

I dont know why companys get so up tight about drivers, I mean they wont even get a bad "image" from dumb users who install them and wreak their machines, the only people who will even hear about them are techs and enthusists (sp?) like users on this board that will realise the risks involved with using un released drivers.

                      Cheers!

Matrox's biggest issue with leaked drivers is the tech support headache they cause.
More people get their hands on these drivers than you think. At this moment, those drivers are being downloaded quietly by all sorts of people.
Inevitably, a number of those people will start posting about their problems with these drivers in the Matrox Tech Support forums.

                          Indiana, et al. I repeat...

                          Matrox does not leak drivers!

So stop trying to read something into this that isn't there.

Sorry, but where has Indiana said Matrox "leaked" those drivers, and where has he read something into this?

And if they're that tight on driver-leaks, they SHOULD release drivers themselves more often. Even if it is only minor fixes and/or speed improvements, they ARE welcome to most users.
Matrox haven't been releasing Parhelia drivers fast enough for you? Sheesh I've never seen Matrox release drivers faster (although maybe at the release of G200 or G400 I didn't pay attention) - could be a new commitment, or just common with a new core (see previous about Gx00).
Well if they're real leaked drivers, you might be correct
And maybe Greebe was responding to that post from Indiana - too tired to check if that's about Matrox.

Well, the discussion went more to leaked drivers in general and that was what I referred to. The part of the leaked on purpose drivers (I like the term "approved leaks") specifically referred to ATI and NVidia.

I still think this is not the worst thing to do. If there's a game like e.g. GTA3 that makes problems on nearly all hardware, I'm glad to get a new driver that fixes this problem soon - and if it fixes it only on a part of the possible configurations, so what? I can always return to the previous driver if it doesn't help me.
