What about ATI with the R9700? Its pretty different from the R8500.

Still the 9700 driver bases on the old Radeon family driver set. It's even the same driver archive that is used for all Radeon based cards from the original Radeon over the Radeon8500/7500 up to the R9000 and R9700.
Sure there must be new code parts but the majority seems to be at least heavily based on old driver sets.

Yes, but they're all 1.00, meaning most of the differences between them are specific bug fixes. Like I said before, 1.01 will be better. It contains new optimizations.

About the AGP patch: Does it work in XP? Or is it "2000 only"? What I mean is, since it's from september 2000, is there any risk of it screwing up WindowsXP?

According to the blurb on the download agreement page, this patch is not required for Windows XP.

To be honest, I'd be suprised if M$ hadnt included this in SP1 or later for 2000.

Whoops. Missed that one. Anyway, applied the patch, and there was no difference. But at least now I know how to boot Windows in UP-mode
