  • Seeking PCI v2.0 video card for old system

My sister-in-law is in need of a new video card for her Pentium/233-based system. This box has PCI v2.0 slots, so replacing the existing card isn't just a matter of grabbing the first PCI-based video card I see.

I'm thinking that a Matrox Millennium II might be appropriate for her. They are dirt-cheap ($US ~20) now and old enough, I hope, that PCI 2.1 isn't a requirement for using the card.

Obviously there will be no playing of Quake3 on this machine. That said, I would like to find the PCI 2.0-compliant card that offers the best 2D performance.

Can anyone comment on the suitability of the Millennium II for this environment? How about on the availability of compatible PCI cards in general?

    Thanks.

It should work with PCI 2.0 and PCI 2.1 compliant motherboards. My Millenium II is running on a PCI 2.1 board and I had no problems at all.
