  • I have an Idea.....

I've been kicking this around the last couple of days....People talk of how smooth the Matrox Parhelia is vs. ATI/Nvidia, yet it produces lower FPS then other cards do. I was thinking since I have the monitors and a two fairly closely spec'ed out machines...I could do a test with a video camera with both computers running the same game with the FPS counter on and off to see if people can tell the difference between the two. Anyone else think this is a good idea or have any other Suggestions?

Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

If you run tests and find out the minimum framerate that'll be enough.
My "Baby": Shuttle SS51G, P4@2.26 Ghz 533 FSB, 80 GB Western Digital Caviar "Special Edition" Hard Drive 7,200 RPM w/8 MB Cache, 512 MB Corsair PC2700 with Heat Spreaders, Pioneer DVD Drive (w/sexy slot load ), and of course a Matrox Parhelia Retail Vid Card

...think GT is talking about subjective testing...
How can you possibly take anything seriously?
      Who cares?

The fps approach to benchmarks doesn´t say anything about smoothness!

Try to focus on the maximum number of milliseconds between the frameupdatess, THATS what smoothness is all about!

you could try to make a fraps-like utility that measure the timeintervals between the frameupdates.
This sig is a shameless atempt to make my post look bigger.

I think it's a great idea. We saw the test on THG and we know how unreliable Tom is, so it would be nice for someone to do a test of his own!

            I say do it!

looks like you missed the last years in development of video cameras ...

One of our clients has a vid cam that does 1000 fps and those kind of cameras are also used for the so called "live super slow motion" shots, that got fancy in Formula 1 broadcastings for example.

better ask your local TV station if they have one for a "scientific experiment" ...
