  • Recommandation for heatsink to replace retail heatsink

The retail heatink-fan combo has a very annoying high pitched sound, so I would like to hear if anyone knows of a good replacement.

I have already tried a Zalman17-Cu it is too small to fit, currently I have a Thermaltake GF4 cooler on it with thermal tape (fan at 7V) it is ok for now, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution!

Has anyone tried the Alpha PAL 15U lowprofile, it's very expencive though!

    On what card?
According to the latest official figures, 43% of all statistics are totally worthless...

Sorry, the Parhelia of course, I cannot remember any noise problems with other Matrox cards not even G400MAX

Any copper 60mm 1U heatsink, I guess. I have a modded Alpha PAL6035 on there, you could maybe get the short CoolJag?

          I'll suggest a 60mm 1U copper heatsink as well...

            luni:

WOW, how the h*ll did you fit that huge chunk of copper on the card?

I'm thinking about getting a lowprofile heatsink and then drill holes so it will fit, but I cannot seem to find any here in Denmark except the Alpha one and it is about 500 kr ($66/€63)!

So if you know a webshop that will ship to Denmark let me know.

            TIA

Its more silent. The Matrox cooler is extremly loud.

Matrox cooler is pretty quiet over here. louder than most video card coolers, but still a lot quieter than most of the orb type fans i have ever seen.

plus, the titan coolers are pretty junky...

Here, I went through two different Heat Sink Mods
on the Parhelia. It starts with the big aluminum "Cold CPU" Heat Sink and ends with the copper "Cool Jag" which I finally kept on my Parhelia.

Nothing too huge about PAL6035, its a 60x60mm base copper embeded heatsink, which used to rule the socket370/a scene a while ago. I took a dremel, shortened the pins, shortened the fan screws enough that I could mount a low-profile silent 60mm fan and slapped it on with a superglue in corners.

                            this is going on mine:

its copper and low profile but can handle an xp2200 so should be able to push parhelia to its voltage limit.
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

I found a pretty cheap heatsink, and although it's all aluminium it should be much better than the retail one:

                              It's the ALPHA S1560-30

It's a general purpose heatsink with no holes and no clips, and I think that's actually an advantage.

I will make two holes to match the ones on the retail heatsink and some holes in the corners so that I can attach a low noise Papst 60mm fan.

I'll let you know how it turns out.....
