Yeah, the petition is a nice idea, but I agree that it probably won't do anything, unfortunately...

I still believe Matrox should fire their current "visionaries" and hire new ones or a consulting company, and re-invest massively (get the money from the owners, venture capitalists, go public, whatever).

That way, they could get all the equipment/people they need, recreate an energizing atmosphere in the company (damn those cubicles!!!), re-implement extra hours and bonuses for exceptional employees, and become much more aggressive in the market.
Matrox already has some "exotic" parts of the graphics market, like the MMS series, the 10bit grayscale cards, etc. What they should do now IMO, is expand their offerings to cover every market segment, even more than nVidia/ATI. As an example:

Low-end: come up with good quality integrated graphics chips. These seem to be a very important investment for the future of the PCs.

Mid-range: Parhelia 128 is fine. Maybe fix it up a little and lower the price a bit.

High-end: come on Matrox guys, let's hear your warrior's cry, show the world what you've got, and unleash a Parhelia II that'll DESTROY every card available now. Price it however you like, it'll probably be mostly a proof of concept to put back a halo around the Matrox name and sell the other cards/chips.

If the cash flow increases, Matrox could eventually follow in nVidia's footsteps with a MB chipset (although we're getting VERY hypothetic here, and in a quite distant future). I think going in the MB business is a very good idea to secure the future of the company. Graphics cards may disappear eventually.

Oh by the way, it's "Dan Wood" IIRC, not "Dan Woods"

PS: damn, I must be fast because I got an error I can't post more than 1 message in 30 seconds....

the banding does not only occur in 3D, but also when using video overlay !!!

                    Learn from your mistakes?

Hey every company makes mistakes. I don't think that for one of the oldest graphics card companies this is enough for it to fall over.

Problems can be fixed, they must be going through some hard business decisions if these rumours are true, and a bit annoyed that some of the people who used to work for them are putting the skill that made Matrox famous into other products.

Does anyone really know how much they have in the bank? Or if some of the projects may have been cancelled to work on stuff that people may never see e.g. for military use. The way I see it is a private graphics card company who has made graphics products before the PC industry was really there. Is it possible that they have their eggs in more baskets than we can see. I guess we'll never know.

I dont think we will ever see the day when most computers are shipped like they were in the late 90's (Millennium et all). They will probably go more niche market.

I believe people at Matrox graphics have had great product ideas and marketed them badly at the wrong times. Most of their features have been valid (bar G550 head casting).

Matrox video is the strongest section. Does anyone know if their networks division has pretty much died it sure seems like it, too much competition.

I don't want them to go the way of Amstrad...

Maggi: Sorry, that's the first I've heard it affects video.

Fluff: I don't think they are going to fall over, but cutting back on the prosumer graphics cards might happen.

I've missed the irony as well...

Save Matrox or face the alternative...

3. Individual Petitions
Ok, rather than petition for all that, how's about 1 petition to complain about the Parhelia, and replacements for everyone who is affected

                            I vote for that !!!

Seriously, I'm pretty annoyed that Matrox doesn't show any interest in clearing up these issues and reading all news from VigilAnt makes me think we users won't even have a chance to RMA our cards, because there seems to be no fixed revision of the chip available.

fluff: that is a very interesting idea about matrox and .gov contracts. Maybe they have such a lucrative contract with the government that they dont really care about the consumer crowd. Maybe matrox just makes videa cards for us normal people for fun, something to do when they arnt swimming in there Money Bin full of cash. But they again, probably not.
