The banding issue is merely recognised as a known issue, and not fixed. But it's a start.
By the way - I have just installed these drivers (didn't try the betas) - and independent dualhead plus the third monitor for zoom is probably THE BEST configuration for photoshopping I have ever ever used. Well done Matrox.
i'm kinda curious if that is the same banding issue or if that is a 3DStudio Max specific issue...

VNC is a very nice product - I use it at work to get a Linux desktop on my Windows PC so I can play around with The GIMP. I also use it to control my PC from my Palm Pilot via BlueTooth - purely for pose value as it's highly impracticle
However, it's designed purely for LANs as it's networking is made for high speed LANs and it's security is very poor.
AFAIK Remote Desktop stuff in XP is similar to Citrix/Terminal Services in the regard that it works better over slower connections and is a bit more secure.
VNC is nice - bit it doesn't meet all requirements

and yes, we are talking about the built in remote desktop support in Windows XP... it uses the terminal services code from 2000 to support multiple users and some other nifty tricks...

Even though this won't change your mind about VNC. TightVNC fixes some of the problems mentioned. It adds compression (makes a big difference) and encrypted passwords.
If you need more security and are connecting to a linux machine. You can run VNC though a SSH session by using tunneling. This may also work with two windows machines, but I have never setup a SSH server on windows.
On a side note, I've run VNC servers from Windows. It's okay. VNC is generally smart enough to use some acceleration when it can. Two Unix boxes will pass X stuff, and Windows boxes can do some stuff too. But when you've got a mixed client/server pair, things aren't as fast.

I use TightVNC and though when I'm using my linux server, with the windows client it isn't as fast as linux client and server, it's still pretty fast. I just wish the mouse wheel would work properly when using the windows client. But it serves well enough for my purposes, (which is using it over the lan to administer my server, which has no monitor) But as far as Remote Desktop in Windows XP being secure....... I wouldn't consider ANY aspect of windows XP secure after reading some of the things they missed just on initial release. I have even seen several specifically related to remote desktop.
(which I don't know if any of you know, you can even use remote desktop in linux to browse a Win2k/XP box, the program is called rdesktop.)

hrmm, the Windows XP Remote Desktop stuff is the same thing as Terminal Services under 2000/.NET... dunno if its secure or not... who knows...
that being said, the web based client for VNC is in java and i can't see it offering any level of performance thats close to being acceptible...... last time i looked at it just didn't really seem to work as well it could have... that being said it has also been like 3 years since i have used VNC...
personally i have no reason to use it at the moment as anything i do on my FreeBSD boxes i do through an ssh session... no reason for a GUI... that and the fact that XP includes RDC...
