  • Oh Dang!

I was just about to buy a Matrox Parhelia until I heard that it may go down the drain as it were noooooooooooooo! I cant believe it What do you think? Should I still get the card or wait for prices to come down or go elsewhere as I' am worried about paying so much for a card and then being left without support which reminds me of 3dfx and DC ...hehe

    Don't be so pessimistic=)

Matrox won't die anytime soon. At the very least you get driver support that's better than either of the other companies'

3dfx there are some other issues I would consider before buying the card!!!. Look around in this forum. Or even read the editorial of Vigilant on the front page. I would not get the card even if they paid me.

yea it's not a good idea to buy parhelias right now. it seems the first parhelia chips have some minor disign flaws (that shouldn't be hard to fix in the next revision, in fact they should be fixed in the Parhelia 8X), in fact somewhat defective. The silicon is quite immature... so if i m u i would wait for new revisions. Just the blending issue will stop me from getting a parhelia.

The main reason I was buying the Parhelia is that I was getting it at a good price 125 pounds plus 15 pounds P&p so that around $209 with P&p, I thought that was good. I may keep my geforce 4 as well until I'm happy and settled in with the Parhelia. I'm a gamer so you'd think I'm a fps freak but I'm not, I prefer quality thats the main reason I bought a voodoo5 when it came out over a geforce. Though with the latest 41.03 drivers from Nvidia for the geforce 4 has really kicked ATI ASss ..hehe Though I still cant wait to try the Parhelia as I'm always up for a challenge in terms of tweaking my card for best performance

That is a pretty good price there - how on earth did you manage that?

To be honest I get a lot of opportunities like this, but in this case I just happened to be in the right place at the right time and the best bit is it is a RETAIL model I actually happened to be up late on Ebay and came accross it, so I snaped it up
