I think there is alot of 'groupthink' or 'rule of thumb' going on in matrox's management. What does it take, "Bankruptcy' ? to stop the 3Dfx mentality and make them think as a dynamic management team with a common goal.

I wonder even now if 3Dfx's management think it's their fault. It's good that there is still time to save matrox. Though I dont think matrox's management care that much.

It's just something about it, it's almost like the conisuers 3dcard as you almost feel special ..lol "oh I have a Parhelia" Like a Razer Boomslang did for mouses. I mean lets be honest that you are unlikely to need anymore than the Parhelia for a while. I mean ppl are still using there G400's for christ sake ..lol I mean even Voodoo 5's can still pack a punch. I just think ppl get to consious of 3dmark scores and fps in Quake 3 etc. PLz tell me the difference between 150 fps and 175 fps(25 fps...lol but what I mean is that it seems like a massive leap but really it doesn't make any real difference. Infact I think you may also find that in some cases you'll get a better ping if you have a framerate around 55 which is by the way more than enough. Dammit 30 is more than enough I mean I've always gone with the not so obvious choices, like a voodoo 5(not the fastest, but the quality kicked any Radeon or Geforces ASS at the time) I can say this as I've owned pretty much every 3d card that has come in the last few years. Oh and let me tell you up until recently I've had more problems with games and software with ATI cards than any other. Ok so Nvidia drivers are the Gold standard, and games run fast but I think the quality is lacking. I mean I would rather play Unreal looking absolutely gorgeus at 35 fps than jaggy and crap at 150fps but thats just me and nothing beats Matrox's hand on techy.
Feck speed, it's not that that people are bitching about.
It's the banding issue which could've been avoided if they waited another month. What's one more month with Matrox's calendar
Anisotropic filtering not at full capacity yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong but AF today is a quality feature and a must.

And want it or not and as much as some people and M$ is evangelizing XP, the lack of Win 98 drivers. WTF should you care that they're cutting support for it next year, right now it's still here, the latest DX can still be installed on it and the latest software still works on it and might still do for a while. I'm not denying the superiority of XP but why should you almost double the money you spend by buying a new OS along with your new card. Stop marketing for M$ and start doing it for Matrox. You can afford such an attitude with the P2 since it will be out after they cut support for Win98 and even then you'll find people bitching. ATI and Nvidia still support it and they're in a better position to dictate than Matrox is.
As long as it still kicks why kill it ?

The FAA "faults" are not that bad and you might still strap some ramsinks on it for the sake of stability.

        Different Market

I really dont see why people keep bringing up the 98 issue. The target market for the parhelia is not for users running 98. How many pc hardware enthusiests run 98, how many profesionals run 98, im sure not vary many that know what they are doing. The only computers that come with 98 pre-installed are ancient history, and will no way make the most out of the parhelia. Im sure the cost of making 98 drivers overshadows the amount of profit that could be made with the 98 support. The people that need 98 support are the people that shop at best buy ,and other chain retail stores. Since matrox is not in those retail stores, why support them. No added benefit.

yeah, come over to america... have not seen a retail Matrox product in stores since the Mystique G200's iirc...

edit, just a clarification about this.. retail product, not bulk...

Better still you guys have to visit here.
However my main point was that while America is a large % of Matrox sales, there are other places that work differently.

True, even here, in Montreal, there's not a lot of place where you can find the P in retail stores.

DGhost: My apologies for my previous post, I think I misunderstood you.

9x should be supported becuase they still a lot of people use it.
XP has improved a lot with sp1 before that on my machine with a fresh install it was slow and buggy.
If it had I would have gone and bought. Since the banding issue is around I'm glad I didn't. The only thing I miss is decent two monitor support.

                            hi,

as long as there are still Applications and Games that have problems or do not work with the WinNT-Kernel we W98-Users will continoue bringing up this "issue"
Matrox targeted the Parhelia at least partly as a gamer-card
                            (sourround-gaming, 16FAA, ...)
and it is advertised on gamersites (planet unreal,...)

Secondly there where W98-drivers promised and then dropped.

Imho because of these two points Matrox has lost a lot buyers, maybe they should reconsider bringing out some W98-2D-drivers (at least betas)...
There are more W98-users as you think
