  • moan, moan and moan ..lol

Right, now this could just be me but for some reason everyone seems to be bitching about the Parhelia All I keep hearing is look at the 3dmark scores and the quake fps .. OMG the Radeon can do 15 fps more in 1600 -1200 ohhhhh well isn't that AMAZING! ..lol Honestly though I think ppl have to stop hoping for a Parhelia 2 and stop bitchin about the cards performance in FirstPersonShooters(FPS).

I mean lets be honest FPS have always been nvidia's domain since the end 3dfx It's actually like when 3dfx were the DADDY or the KING of the gaming market. SPEED! was their moto, though on the otherhand nvidia and ATI prefered to design cards that concentrated more on quality and features rather than RAW! power, omg that sounds a bit like ATI/Nvidia vs Matrox with it's quality philosophy over RAW! performance. History revolving itself ..hehe

So what about the Parhelia 2, well that sounds great and hopefully it will be a proper gaming dedicated card and it will put all those flamers at ease. Let's be realistic though guys, if Matrox doesn't do well with the Parhelia there is no chance they'll risk releasing a Parhelia 2, mainly due to the risk of complete failure and then bankruptsy and the cost of developing and producing is very GREAT and that is money Matrox doesn't have.

A price drop would be nice though to be honest you do get a lot for what you pay and Matrox has used the best components. What you have to remember is that most reviews are completely biased as they run the tests using 3d mark, which is obsolete(ATI and Nvidia both use tweaks in their card drivers to up the scores in 3dmark. Ati even got caught in the act with 8500..lol) and Quake clones, the Parhelia was never designed for this area. It is an alrounder, which for many reasons is good and bad. I feel it is similiar to the voodoo 5 situation, ok so it's not the fastest card but who really cares, if you are so sad to want to get a nice high 3d mark! score or a ridiculous framerate then go with the compition.

On a final note if you want to see a Parhelia 2 then in my opinion you are going to have to buy a Parhelia and help Matrox get some good sales to afford the second cards development if it has even or was intended to be started. I believe it stands on it's own merits and it does have a following, I can say this as it sells better than most cards on Ebay. A great and friendly support staff who are trying there best to help and fix the problems we have

P.S. as for a price drop well I got mine for $190, so I say Shop around

Buying it from eBay doesn't help Matrox really though, in essence you're funding purchases of rival hardware for those disgruntled owners.

That's not to say I'm not interested though...

                  It seems like a Millenium I with a 2/4 MB memory add-on.

Looks more like a G200 with the Ram upgrade, or the Marvel G200, but definitly not the G400.

i vote millenium... note that even the Mystique had a single chip design, unlike that card...

3Dfx, The only problem with your arguement is the fact that some parts of the P are currently broken....
Noone wants to lay down $350 for a card that might get fixed...

The card does fine for me on speed and features, I was taking out my wallet when the artifacts started to show up....
and now we learn that the chip not only has that fault but has trouble with FFA and some piepline issues....

I'd hate to buy my P @$350 only to find out a month or two later the AGP8x part comes out and is selling for $300 and is 10-20% faster because of all the fixes...

It's not a matter of I'll wait for the next card procrastination, it's I don't want a broken one....

                              just my view on it
                              Craig
BTW, I don't think MGA is going anywhere, their P is selling enough cards, it may not be as profitable as the G400 or even the G450, but I don't think its a loss...
