  • G400 + Win2k = Freezing!

Have any of you been experiecing this problem?

    I have a p3 500 w/ asus p3b-f and G400 DH w/ pd 5.86. And I have updated everything with the latest drivers etc...and I'm still having lockup/freezing. Its terrrible!

I am afraid matrox support is gonna force me to run on 1X

I hear some people downgrading their drivers and have been quite succesful since. Is this true?

    Thanks!

if you're experiencing issues running at AGP2x then something in your system is generating too much noise on the PCI bus causing this issue. Don't sweat it tho, running at AGP1x outside of a few synthetic benchmarks doesn't affect game play.

Will moving my sound card to another slot help this problem?

Variance - do what Greebe suggested. If you still experience probs, keep AGP 1x and do the following steps:

          1. Reseat graphics card in the AGP slot
          2. Keep PCI slot 1 free (!).
          3. Make sure that all cards have their own IRQ and lock these in the BIOS.
          4. Set PNP OS = Disabled (=NO)
          5. Disable all USB settings in the BIOS until the setup of the system is ready.
          6. Make a clean installation.
          7. Install W2k Professional
          8. Install INTEL Inf. Update 3.20.1008
          9. Install W2K Service Pack 2 (not 3!)
          10. Install DX8.1b for Windows 2000
          11. Install Matrox PD V5.72 (and afterwards a newer OpenGL-version if you need it). I run into trouble with any newer driver !)
          12. Enable USB if needed
          13. Do a stability test (Q3A loops, etc. )
          14. If everything is o.k., Install the rest of your software.

          Hope that helps !

Bog: I have the SB LIVE VALUE on my 4th slot. Which slot are you on that solved your situation?

I'm gonna give what MK suggested a shot.

So I was lazy and played around w/ my sound card. Moved it to the 3rd pci slot re-installed the creative drivers. And now it seems to be stable. No more crashing...I hope!

Now my 2nd obstacle, I can't get CS to run!
I have the newest PD drivers and newest DirectX too. It'll load and once I get into the game it will crash whether I am in D3D or OPENGL! Crap.

I think I may give the 5.72 drivers a try tomorrow.

I have had alot of crashes with CS. The latesed drivers work good but with older drivers you just HAVE to use AGPx1 !!! You will at most loose 1-3fps if even that much...

                    Use AGPx1 !!!

Your Matrox work great in AGPx1, don't think anything else...

                    Good luck
