You installed the 4-in-1's? ALL of it? Great. Now you'll have AGP4x, and an overall slower, unstable system. If you've got a rollback point, use it, and only install the drivers you specifically need.

    May God be with you.

Why is that Wombat? Why is it slower and unstable?

Because VIA doesn't know how to write drivers. For example, MS has had superior IDE drivers for VIA chipsets for a long time.

            your VIA phobia is showing.

The latest vias are quite reasonable, but my next mobo will not be from via

I would agree that Wombat's words are true for older VIA chipsets. The drivers as well as the chipsets were flaky back then, and since they've had plenty of new chipsets to keep them busy not much has been done to fix the problems of older chipsets. But it appears they've learned their lesson. Whether it is in chipset design or writing drivers or both is unclear, but stability for newer chipsets like the KT333 is IMHO actually pretty good.

                    not ide busmaster part

i think i didn't install the ide busmaster part.....at first i did, but then xp kept recognizing the "hardware" and i didn't find the drivers for it - so i reinstalled the 4 in 1 without the busmaster option - stable so far - will keep you'all posted...

                    hey, i paid for a 4x board, i wanna 4x board,,,whine, whine....

I have a ASUS A7V266-E and uses all drivers included in 4in1. It is stable as hell and faster then a troll hunting a blonde virgin

With my western digital 8MB cache drive it rox... (if i only could get my hand on one more, then a raid would be the next thing i would do)

A very sensible appraisal I think! I would NOT buy a Via based mobo for myself during the Athlon rush a few years back. I stuck with Intel (paid thru the nose) but my system always had good solid running whilst all my m8's (who saved a bit on the purchase) had no end of grief (Via686B). Anyways, time has passed and now the KT333 units are seemingly as good so why not!
                        Cheers, Reckless
