  • clocking g-400 singlhead

    Hello
I need some tips about clocking my vga card. How can I oclock it?
I have g-400 singlehead (not max) with 32 SDR memory. It has a heat sink (weird dimensions) so i put an large 120x120 mm ventilator (from the old 286 pc). Ofcourse it is not directly on the heat sink but it blows on it and on the memory...
With what tool should i overclock my card and at what values. I don't unterstand MTSTU clocking so i used powerstrip and it now works on engine clock 150 and memory clock 200 MHz.
I saw a post about transfering g400 to a max version... how to do it and is it dangerous...
    Thanks

Imo o'cing G400 is not worth it now with Radeon9700 class cards out. Mine does not o'c well (G400 16SH) since I get artifacts with a mild overclock.

    Powerstrip is OK.

MTSTU uses percentages since Matrox didn't reveal chip and memory clocks in the past.

Transfering G400 to MAX is done by changing pins in BIOS. I'm sure that there are plenty of people here who can enlinghten you on this.

My G400 SH 16 Mb is a very good overclocker with no cooling I easily can run 150/200 all day with no problems. With a fan atached it was runing stable 156/208 but too noisy so i just run it at 150/200

Artifacts? is that a scrambeld picture as a result of lil' colored lines appearing everywere. Yeees... that's my problem to, it works at 147 now with a very little artifact problem, hard to notice..

I couldn't get the mem clock on my G400SH 16 mb over 185 or so, but the core clock went up there just fine so I ran it 185/185. Haven't checked my G450 yet.

CHHAS how do you manipulate clock speeds independantly?

How would you make this configuration otherwose ?!

I'm new to vga clocking but i think that he can't move core and mem speed independently. I believe that he wanted to say that his vga worked on higher speed, his core allowed it but he got artifacts wich is a memory problem... So core works ok but memory doesn't.

Of course you can clock the memory and core separatly.
Good old MGATweak does this for you.

You can also do it in the BIOS pins

That's not so at all. You cannot clock them separately. The most you can do is change the relationship between them, but the dependency remains: change one and you change the other.

By giving you the ability to adjust the multipliers, it is in effect giving you control over both core and memory.

It sure works better than any other (coughBIOSeatingcough) graphics tweaker out there.
