Your last Matrox hardware?

Just curious, after the Parhelia problems (well, after they've come to light, I realise they are ongoing!), how many people will not buy any further Matrox products simple because they got their fingers burnt with the Parhelia.

I'm only referring to the banding/clock issues. I know plenty of people might be disappointed with its gaming performance.

Basically, I want to see how many Matrox "fans" (i.e. people who bought the G-series cards or older), have been lost, because of this, the supposedly flagship product.

Well I voted option number 1, as long as Matrox keeps making decent solutions a combination of nostalgia and brand loyalty will keep me coming to them.

I chose No. 1. Whilst not really being a "fan" as such I am more than happy with my Parhelia. Gaming in triplehead is great (as is general gaming performance and FAA), my board is clocked at the full 220, and the banding has only occured when I have specifically gone to try and force it to happen. If others had not found the problem and I hadn't read about it on MURC, it is more than likely that I would never ever have noticed it during the life of the card.

I remember thinking to myself before Parhelia was launched and reviewed that what I really needed was a card that could do excellent 2d, good dualhead (triple head as it turns out I prefer and was a great surprise!), and that could run games about as fast as a GF3.

That's what Matrox produced, and what I bought. And the gaming performance (IMHO) is actually a fair bit better than GF3 levels, especially with FAA. And it can do surround gaming, which is just COOL!

So I am more than happy with the P. I would have liked it to be a bit cheaper of course, but hey wouldn't everyone?

When I upgrade in a year or two again, I will assess the state of the market, and make another decison. If MGA is still around, I see no reason to leave them off the list.

PS: Option 2 was meant to say "Parhelia owner" as well. I just added 3 and 4 in case people hadn't bought Parhelias and still felt strongly.

As long as they stay with their binary-only, no-specs Linux (and other non-Windows) driver policy, I'm staying away. Even though I would really really like a Parhelia (at least a bugfixed one).
Their previous stance on this issue is the main reason I have a G400. (And bought 2 G200s, a Millenium II, a G450, and even a second-hand Ultima in the past.)

Being honest I voted #2

After having a Millenium, Mystique, G200, G400 and now Parhelia I'm disgusted.

Being a long time user of Matrox cards, the Parhelia is the first one that I've had serious issues with - namely the horizontal disturbances. Coupled with the missing Mhz drama and the fact that my 2nd Parhelia is rapidly showing signs of it's memory going bad (purple dots everywhere when running Linux - migrates into windows on boot. Leave it for an hour and it works fine again) like my 1st Parhelia then I'd question their build quality and their customer support on these issues.

Quite frankly, their reputation has reached zero and I'm voting with my wallet.

Matrox set the expectations high, set the price high, and didn't deliver.

My expectations aren't as high, and I won't pay the current price - what are you offering Uber?

Edit: Oh yes, my vote. Well, I don't have a Parhelia, but would consider it or future products. My loyalty to manufacturers usually continues until I get stung, it's very rarely I'll switch to another manufacturer, unless they offer something a lot better.

My next motherboard will be a SuperMicro, because they'll always ran well for me.
My next monitor will be an Iiyama.
My next mouse will be a Microsoft.
My next car will be a Volkswagen, because this one has ran well.
My next graphics card...well, we'll see. Ati I've ruled out for years, but they are clearly top of the pile in performance at this stage, although Parhelia does have it pipped on features and faults.

I voted #2.

I’m a long time Matrox user. Well since the original Mystique. Since that a G200 Mystique, a G400 Max and a Parhelia 512. Always the retail versions.
My problems started when the G400Max quit working in my ol’ Asus P3B-F i440 BX board though it would work in others. Tried everything possible and nothing fixed it. My G200 Mystique worked OK on that mainboard. I skipped the G550, stayed with the Mystique and bought the Parhelia. I have no interest in Talking or Triple Heads.
I often get the Purple Fuzzies on my desktop and red striping on my task bars and dialog boxes with the Parhelia. Whether I should have requested RMAs on these cards or not, two new baddies in a row are too much for my taste.
I’ve installed an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro 128MB retail. Runs fine.
