        ONO....hmm, £50? I'm thinking of getting a G550 or Parhelia, so a sub-G550 price would be tempting

I'm Cutting-My-Own-Throat (tm) with that price anyway!

I may stick it on eBay in week or two as I'm too busy to do anything about it till then

I choose 3. Sadly, the only Matrox card I have owned is the G200. I never got a G400, as my G200 worked just fine for my needs. My friend gets every Matrox Card, so I look at his. Honestly if the price was lower, I would consider a P. But for the price I went with an 8500. For $85 you just can't go wrong. If the Big M comes out with a killer card in the future, I will strongly consider it. P2?? Lets hope...

To be honest I would have to agree with a lot of the points each of you have made as I also have a Parhelia and to be honest I'm not amused by the problems. Though I got my card at a reasonable price so I can accept it. I suppose the main reason I'm not particularily annoyed is that I have not had the card long enough for it to really annoy me I have enjoyed my experience in the Matrox community and I will stand by the Parhelia as this is the first Matrox product I have really used to be honest. To be honest I'm also up for a challenge and I really think that at this stage Uber m8 you should really hold it out as long as you can

                  Voted #3

                  I Voted #3,

I have had the following Matrox Cards in my many different systems through the years:

Gateway2000 OEM Millenium (2MB WRAM! baby!)
                  Millenium II
                  Mystique (original version)
                  G400 MAX

All the above cards still work, and are in use in systems that I've passed on to my family members.

The G400MAX is mine. I'm looking to replace it, and upgrade to a new card (I need 2 in the upcoming few months). I've waited patiently for Matrox to make something worth my money, but sadly, there really isn't one out.

I'm looking for a card that I can use for TIVO & connect it to my TV (AIW 8500 128MB or AIW 9700Pro) via the Shuttle SB51G mini I just ordered.

Also I'm looking for a dual-head (possible triple head) for my new main PC to replace the one in my sig. I want to do video editting on that main PC, but also have the ability to play the latest game demos if the urge strikes me. For now I'm holding on to my G400MAX and hoping that P2 see's the light of day REALLY soon. If not ATI's R350 or Nvidia *shudders at the thought* might end up in my system.
                  Go Bunny GO!

                    I voted #2...

Personally... after my experience with the G400 and the Parhelia, i will not be so quick to buy another Matrox product. Most certainly not a >$300 video card.

I loved my G400MAX, i really did, but the OpenGL ICD was total crap and they never fixed a lot of the issues with it in Win2k/XP.

As far as the Parhelia... if they showed they were going to actually take steps towards getting these problems resolved, i wouldn't have a problem with buying their products. but one of the reasons why i *bought* a Matrox card to begin with was their """legendary""" support.

I'm not opposed to using their products. I'm just reluctant to put my own personal money down on them anymore.

I voted for 2, then again it should've been 3, then again 3 but not in that way, I'm not considering the original P unless it drops in price, I could however consider the revised P at that price, if it ever makes it out or a P2 if it will ever be one.

My first and only Matrox card was a 32mb DH G400, so I guess I owned the bestest card (referring to chipset) they ever produced. Don't get me wrong, the Parhelia is nice but the G400 was well worth the price, though a bit bittered by the poor OpenGL.

Number 1 for me...had G200 Marvel (still being used my old mans Secondary PC) and G400MAX thats right now being used as a emergancy/troubleshoot AGP card in storage. The Parhelia is a mixed bag for me. I get the banding issues only some programs and isnt too noticable for me and the overall Gaming performance is somewhat lukewarm. I preordered the P when it came out and then almost cancelled it after seeing what happened to it when it got reviewed and what not. Too bad it was shipped already to me and I was stuck with it . I wouldnt mind trying out a Radeon 9700, but the investment (well all about $100 bucks for another 19 in montior off ebay) in Triplehead, plus the P doing "good enough" and I'm tired of the 6 month upgrade rotation I was on (Radeon AIW,Kyro2,Radeon 8500,Parhelia) that I'm gonna keep this card for in this machine indefenfantly till I build a new PC late next year. I'll see where Matrox Stands at this point in time and with the way things are going I bet I wont be getting another Matrox Card, not because I dont...because I won't be able too
Why is it called tourist season, if we can't shoot at them?

                          I voted for 3

                          Owned G200 and own G400.

Bought G200 in November 1998 (looks like a lot of you did).

In September 1999 my G200 pwned and I was entitled for RMA (I was a clueless noob at the time and I had warranty void if removed sticker on my PC).

I was verry impressed by G400 launch (dualhead, performance, features) and benchmarks. Especially on ace's. So I told the salesperson: G200 was a great card, but I'd like to get G400 now. I paid the price-difference 59$/110DEM and got G400 16 SH (122$/230DEM). The dualhead G400 was 2x the price of singlehead, the MAX was even more and I was certain that by the time I have 2 monitors there will be a better dualhead card out. (there were rumours about G600 and G800 - teh excalibur/holy grail)

then comes G450 - no reason to replace G400 with it

                          G550 (G800 rumours) meh

With parhelia (If we forget the issues for a moment.) there's no good offering in the R9000-Ti4200 price/performance sweetspot.

I won't buy Parhelia at this price, performance and issues, however I will consider buying revisions or P2 if it makes it.

If Matrox succeeds in improoving P2 like they went from G200 (sub TNT) to G400 (TNT2 ultra performance, way better features) ...

I voted two; I doubt that is any surprise.

I would consider a future Matrox product if I saw Matrox making some effort to correct the issues with Parhelia. Hell, I'd even respect them somewhat more if they just came out and said we're screwed.

Their choice of using "later" and then not following through with anything substantive is as insulting as it is dirty. It's a big market with plenty of competition and plenty of alternatives. There's no good reason to endure staying with Matrox after this behavior.

No 3. I think I shall buy an nforce2 (horror of horrors) mobo with onboard video to tide me over until fixed P/Pitou comes out. If fixed P/Pitou doesn't come out then I guess I'm stuck with the onboard video, or shall be forced to buy my GF a cheap Sabre card and put me trusty G400 in. All hypothetical of course. I am hoping that 746FX boards come out in time so I can avoid enriching nvidia.

How would you compare the 2D quality of 9700Pro and your previous G400MAX and Parhelia? I'd love to know your personal judgement. Thanks.
