    telecommunications on dictionary.com
    1. The science and technology of communication at a distance by electronic transmission of impulses, as by telegraph, cable, telephone, radio, or television. Often used in the plural with a singular verb: Telecommunications is an important area of professional growth.

    2. The electronic systems used in transmitting messages, as by telegraph, cable, telephone, radio, or television. Often used in the plural with a plural verb: Telecommunications were disrupted by the brownout.

    3. A message so transmitted.
    Over what distance?
Out of a building, out of a WAN, out of an orginization, 3 millimeters, etc . . .

At least we both agree in general that these licenses in general are bad.

I kinda like the conditions on use such as how many machines, educational purposes, company machine and employee home machine, per CD, site license, only on the machine it came with, etc . . . as it allows for cheaper prices in theory. Some companies still charge too much of course.

For Example, Grolier Online has licensing where a school is allowed to access their servers and the students as well at home while going to the school though I do not know the pricing scheme.

Implementation leaves something to be desired but I doubt that would ever get sorted out completely anyway.

Is it then wrong to back up the drivers on say a hard drive and then a CDR...

There's nothing illegal about making a back up and storing it wherever you want.

However, when it comes time to retrieve that backed up driver, technically speaking, you have to put it back on a cd and bring it to the system to install.

I would like to quickly go back to what i said in the original post, seeing as all this talk about the license has come out, i don't think it would be wise for me to have some one send me the CD any more, in which case i would like to know, do the emails take a long time to answer in customer support and i should just wait longer to see if i get a reply, or should i be trying to phone customer support to order this CD?

CS answers their emails within an hour of receiving an email provided the answer is not on the auto reply.

If your answer was in their auto reply but still have a problem with it, email them back again explaining why you still have a problem.

Email the auto reply. I believe your original email is in the auto reply.

I interpret that in the same way. Doesn't matter how you get your driver, you still have the right to back it up.

THanks for answering Haig. It's nice to be able to talk to someone at a company. I'm sure others here have said that before too.

This reminds me of some type of old netscape license.

Oh Matrox, why do you make it so difficult to love you?

Having such clauses on an EULA is ridiculous. This also reminds me of S3.

At least Matrox isn't as bad as S3 is about drivers BUT I must say that is the most ridiculous load of shit.

If I sell off a Parhelia I am legally not suppose to give the CD away?

I say to hell with it, I'm going to get a CD, ISO it, and start handing out copies of it at work. To everyone that wants one. For the reef demo, what have you. In addition to that I am going to provide instructions with the CD for getting the reef demo to run on non-Matrox hardware.

What'cha gonna say about that guys?

just go ahead, D3F, but make sure that the Matrox Police won't get you ...

and please, don't make your next post sound as offensive as this one, or at least point out to whom your anger is directed, so that there won't be any misunderstandings and nobody would feel being stepped onto his toe, ok ?

                              Many apologies,

My post is directed at pretty much any employee of Matrox that wants to try and enforce that clause.

I happen to have a friend that has a Matrox CD, so I'll get his copy and with full intent I intend to slaughter the entire EULA.

But you're right, I don't want any non-Matrox employees to take this offensively.
