  • Getting text to display on top of video on DVDMax (for HTPC)

    Hi guys (and gals),

Been reading the forums every now and then for a few years now, but never signed up. Now seems to be a good time as I have not found the answer to my problem by searching though the previous threads.

I am building up a Home Theatre PC and am after some sort of player or sample code (OS: Windows) that will display text over the top of a video, that will show up using DVDMax.

The Idea is to use a remote control and have a simple text menu show up when different features of the player are used (e.g. play, pause, new movie file selection, codec feature adjustments, etc).

I was originally going to write an application myself in VB (or if i had to, in C/C++), but after trying several applications i found on the web, none seem to be able to do this, so I am unsure if i would be able to program such a feature.

Has anybody heard about or used a program with this ability?
I really want to use DVDMax for this, as it is by far the best TV output I have ever seen from a graphics card.

    Thanx.
    Athlon 1600XP, Epox 8KHA+, 512MB Crucial DDR, ATI Radeon 9700PRO (was G400).
Home Theatre in the works using a Shuttle (that I dont have yet) and my G400 AGP card.
(Also have a G450 32MB PCI - that unfortunatly has no dvdmax unless on an intel chipset mobo).

You need to write a DirectShow filter.

Running two Dell 2005FPW 20" Widescreen LCD
And of course, Matrox Parhelia | My Matrox histroy: Mill-I, Mill-II, Mystique, G400, Parhelia

You need a custom player with special DirectShow Filter. Like Sasami2k for example.

I have heard that VMR9 ( Video Mixing Renderer v9 ) brought some changes in a way of handling overlay surfaces. I think you would be very interested in this matter. For more details refer to avsforum and try search by keyword "VMR9". Here is one interesting thread.

          Please post your observations.

P.S. What are functional differences between DivXG400 + WMP and Sasami2k?

Unfortunatly i have been very busy lately and have not had much of a chance to look into that thread yet.

The good thing I found with the Sasami2k program was that the controls/gui show up in DVDMax - unfortunatly the mouse pointer does not. Also the application is only the size of the video... there is no boarder or any file/edit or title bars. You can also make the video your desktop background. - its not a vary big program, but it seems to have a lot of good features.
