I'm also discussing this in Matrox tech support forum.
linkage
G400 16SH AGP
Millennium 2MB PCI VGA mode
Both flashed to latest BIOS.
Both driven by Powerdesk 5.82
Extra DH support for G400/G450 = installed, uninstalling it causes problems with 3D apps and doesn't help.
W2k Pro SP3
DX 8.1
When selecting Multi Display Controls from Powerdesk icon in System tray the powerdesk terminates with following error message:
I did a pretty thorough removal and reinstall of Powerdesk:
Examined list of driver details in Device Manager, uninstalled Matrox Display Drivers, removed all files in the list, deleted System32\PDesk folder and deleted all files used by drivers and all files starting with mga in System32 and System32\Drivers
Removed HKLM\Softwatre\Matrox registry key
Since I jumpered Millennium back to VGA Windows saw it as VGA compatible and it didn't load it's own drivers.
Installed Powerdesk 5.82.
Crash persists.
Regarding icon colour depth it appears that im SOL.
