  • Mh, next month - parhellia or wait (again)

    Hi Folks,

Long time no see ( Or at least no post by me )

Ok, next month I finally have the money to spare for a 128MB Parhellia (Last time I hade it, my PC suffered from a physical crash (drop on staircase))... Even if I am still happy with my G450, my G200 in my secandory System needs to be replaced (8MB is just to low on memory for 1024x768 - at least if I do not want to change res every time I want to watch a DVD)... Now, as I haven't been into the development during the last year, is there any new card in sight? Any other Events forseeable that would result in a drastic drop in price after April for the Parhellia... Or can I just go with it and be (relativ) sure that the price is stable for at least until the end of the year.... BTW. any Parhellia Marvel Offspring available by now or planned?

    Thanks,
    SHAnDRA

You could wait till may, because as far as I remember they announced all their cards around that time over the last few years.

and they usually announced slower, cheaper cards, so maybe you're in luck

      wouldnt hope on it, though

something new is coming, but maybe not what you want, look in the crystal ball, haig hintewd at it but dont expect it to perform as well as parhelia, it may be some kind of video card they wont say as of yet but it should not be too far off.
is a flower best picked in it's prime or greater withered away by time?

Why do you want a Parhelia specifically? It's a good card for certain people, but you may find that offerings from other manufacturers may fit you better, and likely cost less as well.

            Hi Folks,

May... another Month isn't that problem

Wombat: Of course I could go with a 20-30Euro G450 (Have seen them for that price around here in Berlin)...
but another Manufacturer - sigh, I am not that UltraModernHyperFastFPS Guy, my primary Work is for my study (GIS, GFX, Wordpro&1,2,3)... And man, I once worked on a System with a GeForce2 and later a 3(or was it 4) - All I can say is - after 1-2 hours I got a headache (No the refresh wasn't set to 60 Hz), something that never happened with a MatroxCard... And I am used by now to 2 Monitors (With the G200 it was a MilleniumI (sigh, this card even had a jumper to disable its bios) - with the G400/450 it was the DualHead Feature.... No, I will not go back to work on just one Monitor (And I need a true MultiDisplay Support as my second Monitor is an old 15" and I cannot (if I want to read anything on it) set 'em on the same res. as my primary display)... ATI... considered a Radeon once, but well - do they have a good driver support by now? And what the heck, I had a Matrox since my MilI and if they are not doing something completly wrong (ie. fragging their 2D and giving up to support the old cards) I am in no mood to try with another manufacturer.... (And well, I like FlightSims and the idea of three monitors)

I would recommend to wait a bit. Then again, Parhelia will give you the most kick-ass DualHead you've ever seen if you need something today.

I just purchased a new system. For the time being, I decided to simply put a G450 AGP in it. I wanted to go with a G450 PCI (so that I could continue to use it after I buy something else), but they appear to be hard to find (even in ShopMatrox).

Guess I'll look around in a couple of months time. The G450 I could then reuse in my secondary system, to upgrade from a G200.

I'm considering selling my Parhelia. The linux drivers are the reason.... I don't really use DualHead that much, and can't currently afford 2 more 21 inch monitors to match my current one, so perhaps you could get a good deal from me?

I was the same way. Too poor to get it new, so I traded my R8500 128mb retail and some $$$ for it...

They've been saying that since early February.

I'm assuming their launch will coincide with the new upcoming Windows drivers...

Well, Parhelia does offer the best DualHead, but what kind of monitors are you driving? A G550 would also do the job, or a good quality Radeon with twin monitor support.
