  • custom resolutions

hi folks, I'm hoping that an expert here will know an answer to my question - I haven't been able to find a definative answer elsewhere:

For custom resolutions on the G series or Parhelia cards, are they constrained to multiples of 8? The custom resolutions for ATI and Nvida cards require that each dimension be divisible by 8.

I'm trying to match the resolution of my 1/4HD projector, which has a resolution 960x540. While these numbers are divisible by 8, the projector is looking for 1100 total pixels across (including front/back porch, sync). The Nvidia video I'm currently using will only let me set this number to 1096 or 1104 (i.e. divible by 8).

I would appreciate any info! I'm hoping that picking up a Matrox video card will be the answer to my problem!

Powerstrip allows support for custom resolutions....
i did it for the widescreen telly of a friend.

You have to change the res for the tv and the monitor tho, so best turn off the monitor. you can have presets, and switch between when needed...

anyone else done this? (who can explain it also...)

bzo - This is possible with a Parhelia only. The G-series cards will be subject to the same limitations as your NV card.

Sorry to go OT, but it's semi-relevant anyway:

Ashley, I added a 1440x1080 @ 85 Hz resolution on my Radeon 9500 Pro with powerstrip, but win XP thinks it's 60 Hz, as that is mentioned in the drop-down refresh rate list in the monitor tab in advanced display properties (monitor does run at 85Hz though)... any idea why that happens?

How about using the Matrox Tweak Util???

Allows you to setup custom resolutions.

dZeus - Windows gets the refresh rate from the display driver, so the OS will report the refresh rate the display driver is using. If another program has "followed-up" by programming the graphics controller with a different refresh rate, only the graphics controller (and your monitor) will know about it.

Is that what you wanted to know?

Ashley, thanks for the information. I was hoping to go with the cheaper G550, but at least there is a solution with the Parhelia.
