g450 out, g400 in...

Heyya ya helpful folks

After reading many threads on this forum, i've decided to ditch my g450 for a g400. Managed to obtain one on ebay...

My main reason for this is to enjoy clone on my TV, and good DVD & movie output...

Any last thoughts...?

Anyway in which the g400 isn't up to the g450?

For your needs, I'd say use the G400.
If memory serves me right, the g450 up has a fully integrated DAC and allows a higher resolution on the second head - but for TV this means nothing.

Thing is, my second display is hooked up to the TV, and i've got a third cheap 2mb for my second lcd display, mainly cause i can't be bothered swapping the cable all the time!

For TV out yes. You can also sell G450 latter and stay on 0 or turn a profit.

Only thing about buying 2nd head is no 3-year Matrox warranty.

Speaking of which, I saw G400, 2 G400 Tv's (one of them costing more 2nd hand than new from shopmatrox.com) and Matrox Digisuite MAX LE on local auction, where I scored Millennium PCI for 5€.

I think it will be the same, but since you are going to use the second head for TV-Out, G400 is probably a better choise.

Performance on G400 & G450 is about the same. Off course, if you can get a MAX, thats the best!

Note that MAX has a fan. It will yield higher speed in games, however it won't perform better regarding TV than vanilla G400.

I got my g400.

Clone seems to be better, haven't tested it fully thou.

DVDMAX function isn't as good - more choppy, slows the system down. You can ut the setting on performance but then it throws my LCD out cause it drops the main display to 50Hz. SO thats dissapointing - now movies don't play as well as with the G450.

Any ideas on how to improve DVDMAX speed???

Yeah, that sounds pretty weird. DVDMAX is pretty much done in hardware on the G400.

Well...

I did uninstall the previous drivers, using the matrox uninstaller.
I also removed nortons, it was interfering somewhat.

Removing that increased the speed. Still slows down now & then, but it's ok i guess. I've only got a Celery 700, & the movie alone will sometimes chew up a lot of CPU power.
