  • XVid Playback problems on G400Max

    Hey everyone,

First off, if this is in the wrong forum, please move it, and my apologies.

Now then, I recently downloaded a video off Kazaa. Apparently it was encoded in Xvid. I have found and installed a codec for Xvid (no I did not DL and compile it myself). While I was watching the video on my Shuttle system in my sig, which is btw is connected to a 32 inch TV via the 2nd head as clone on the G400MAX, the entire screen was yellow (instead of black) from the start. All the colors were all screwwed up. Black was yellow and god knows what the others were.

The PC is running XP SP1. I have DX 8.1 on it (I don't game on the machine so DX 9.0 is pointless I feel) and 5.86.032 drivers for the G400MAX installed. I never had issues playing back DVD's or SVCD's or even Divx on this machine before, but Xvid is a new beast for me.

Any suggestions on a specific build of the XVid Codec, or any specific setting changes I might have to make in DVDMax playback that might help would be greatly appreciated. I do not know yet if the playback on the primary head to a PC screen is okay or not, but I did play the same video back on my laptop with the exact same XVid codec installed and it played with out a hitch.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!
    Go Bunny GO!

I use ffdshow for all the mpeg4 codecs.

Might be worth giving that a try - I just started using the latest alpha build and it seems to work properly.

It's been a long time since I used the XVID codec so I don't know the best build to use.

i have to have ffdshow OFF for my vids to be seen correctly.
I have np idea why, all the codecs seem to mingle together....its a big mess....
I use NIMO codec and DivX5.03.
Nimo gives me the rest of the needed codecs, but always seems to install Divx.dll, no matter what u tell it...

Will this Nemo codec install an XVid Codec on my system? Can you selectively install codecs (other than the Divx.dll that you mentioned) using Nemo? And lastly, where can I get this Nemo from?

I would suggest just installing codecs you need individually. Codec packs can cause problems.

Here's a link to the author-of-Zoomplayer's guide to the codecs that you are likely to need.

This guide will show you how to configure your system to best support the ever growing number of Media file formats and compression types.

Usualy I would install individually, been burnt so many times but...

The k-Lite codec pack has been trouble free

Thanks guys, I'll try out both those links. I hope this clears up my problems with playback on the G400MAX via DVDMax.
