the only thing I can think that will work to resolve this clone bios problem (accidential clone of a milleniumg400dh to a marvelg400tv) is to replace the "MGA.BIN" with another bin file made with that same version of the "matrox emergency bootdisk" and put it onto the bootdisk that screwed me in the first place. it is worth a try but I think it will depend on the bin file itself. all the pins data should be identical as long as the bin file comes from a marvel emergency boot disk so I know someone here has a 32k bin file I can try from a marvel g400 tv. I would appreciate the help.

How would I get a back up of the Marvel G400TV Bios? I have one here that I could get the BIOS from.

isn't it on your drivers CD?

there is a "Bios" folder on it with these image files (32kb each):
897-15.bin, 897-15TV.bin, 900-26.bin, 900-26TV.bin

the first thing, make sure your card is a marvel g400 tv agp (not pci version)

goto pure dos (format /s) prompt after you make the emergency disk (dont boot off the matrox emergency disk) type this:

PROGBIOS -d >mypins.txt also, copy the bin file of your bios.

compress the two files and post it here please.



make a "matrox emergency disk" of a marvel g400 tv with that setup257.exe bios, goto "readme.txt" follow the instructions to make a dos "matrox emergency disk" from pure dos (format /s or in win98 format floppy *not quick format* then "copy system files only", use winimage (http://www.winimage.com/) to image the matrox floppy after it is successfully created, zip or rar it, and send it to me or post it here. the file should be less than 1meg, probably closer to 500k.

now, that should fix the problem. it will restore an image of your board onto my board from the dos prompt.

WARNING: DO NOT UPDATE YOUR BIOS, JUST COPY/IMAGE IT TO THE FLOPPY!

I have tried those images on the retail disk that came with the card. still no luck. if the 257 bios update does not work from a dos boot disk that you make then the very last thing to try is make this disk with the exact same version of the bios updater that screwed me to begin with. the dates on the files on that boot disk are from 1999 and I am not exactly sure what version the bios updater is yet. lucky for me/us matrox has ALL the bios update packs posted on their website.

I don't have the Marvel running on any PC now, and I don't have a floppy drive on my rig. My brother's drive died a couple of weeks ago. So I'll try to put it in my cousin's PC but it'll have to wait until this weekend since she doesn't live close

Go here for the emergency disk which I think SHOULD have the correct stuff on it. The Mypins.txt thing didn't work 'cause apparently the WindowsXP boot disk does not install Dos4gw.exe But I'm thinking that this emergency disk is probably all you'll need anyhow, right?

it did not work and I got a totally unexpected result.

FDCONFIG.SYS not found.
CONFIG.SYS not found.

those two lines appear twice in the boot sequence and then it flips to the next screen and says this:

so I dont know what to think about that cept, I still need a bin file and pins file. heh.

the other thing is find out what version of the bios flash was on that boot disk that was in the floppy drive by mistake and build an emergency disk out of it. if that doesnt work, send it back to matrox for the painful RMA thing.

perhaps it has something to do with windows2000/xp since that disk was origionally created on a windows98se system.

The config.sys warning shouldn't be important since it'll only be needed to load the memory manager. However Dos4gw should work in raw mode (without Himem or Emm386 loaded).

What seems to be missing is the progbios executable and the bios file (.bin) to be flashed.

Have you tried the pbioswin.exe? it should work from a windowed environment (9x or NT based)

btw the bios file 897xx-TV.bin available from Matrox FTP or the driver's CD should be the correct one for a G400 AGP card.
the 899 are for the G200 PCI and the 900 for the G200 AGP.
However there is no specific reference to the Marvel model, I'll try to get my Marvel's bios and send it to you ASAP.

ahhh one more thing!

What's the problem with your card?

If it's only that it's not shown as a Marvel in the Windows device manager but a millenium, don't worry about it. It's the unified drivers from Matrox. There was a solution some years ago in this forum. I'll do a search for it when I get back from work.

I had an emergency boot disk for the millenium g400 dual head agp card in the floppy drive by accident and within like 30 seconds the damage was done! it flashed my marvel into a millenium with the exact serial number and everything. an exact clone of millenium g400 dual head card. windows2000 sees the card as a millenium with video in, video out, tv in addons in the "Information" tab inside the matrox powerdesk. anytime I try to flash the bios it kicks me out thinking its the wrong board. I will try again with that specific rom which I think I did try already but I will try again.

if you could send me your bios bin file and the pins file that would be a great help. thanks.

here is "mypins.txt" file off the marvel card after it was flashed to a milleniumg400 dual head. notice the serial number in the list.

12 16 'LAT37841'

that is the exact same serial number of the millenium g400 dualhead card.

so! not one of my online MURC pals has a pins.txt file that I can use to fix my matrox marvel g400 tv agp card? I find it hard to believe. I found a g200marvel agp I am going to buy. the guy wants like 30$ plus 10 shipping. the 10 shipping thing seems like a lot for shipping.
