1. ebay seems to be selling P's for around $215 or so...
so unless P750's go for around $110 or so, or something
significantly less than $215 at least, I think the P might still
be a better deal, especially if the P750 are going for ~$200...
2. I'd like to know if there's some sort of passive cooling
that can be used with P750, or if the fan can be safely
disabled...
3. For TripleHead, what's the max res. and refresh rate for
the third display? Isn't it Analog-Digiital-Analog as the only
configuration for triple head available?
4. Just how much better is the 2D performance and IQ of P750
vs G550/G400MAX? How about vs Parhelia?
Is the 2D performance and IQ noticeably superior to cards
such as Leadtek Ti4x00 series which use high-quality filters?
FiringSquad says it's hard to tell the difference between Matrox
and Leadtek, but is that the case at higher res.? If there is
an improvement, will you notice on an LCD display? If on CRT,
would you only notice on a high-end display?
I have compared G400MAX IQ with RADEON 8500 on 15" Samsung 151s LCD, which is analog, and cannot tell the difference between the two in IQ. Colors, sharpness, etc.,
all seem to be darn close, but 8500 is of course much faster
in 3D.
So... if you need DUAL DISPLAY capability, unless you need DUAL DVI, Leadtek Ti4x00 and Radeon 8x00 (and likely 9x00) seem to be comparable to Matrox in IQ and 2D performance at least at 1024x768 on a 15" LCD, and a Leadtek or ATI will cost less than P or Px50 while providing much better 3D for gaming.
I think it comes down to what you need... if you need dual DVI, I suppose Matrox is one of the few providing that. If you need triple head, ditto... If you need dual head with 2 analog, or 1 dvi and 1 analog, I don't know if Matrox still has much of an edge over the competition...
