  • millenium as secondary display adapter

    Hi guys,
A friend of mine is trying to get a 2nd display working on his computer so I tried to install an old Millenium into one of his PCI slots. WinXP sees the video card fine, but I don't know how to set it up to extend the desktop. Is this even possible? I would have assumed that it would be the same setup as a dual-vga video card, showing two monitors in the settings

    any help would be appreciated

What's the primary video card? Sometimes different mfrs. don't get along.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Some older cards are unable to live side-by-side with other cards.
My old S3 Virge 325 and Mach64 are incapable of being secondary cards.
        Primary works fine though.

          I've used a geforce2 Ti with both a Millenium and a Mystique.

Very few problems at all - nview sees the other card and lets you do the nview stuff.

Some games go a bit funny if you leave the other screen enabled though - eg mouse pointer goes onto other screen (click and game minimizes to task bar) Switching to TV-mode with secondary screen on could cause grief too (when switching back from TV mode - might have been a TV-tools bug tho).

I didn't have to do anything special to set it up. Geforce4 MX might be a tad different as it does 'dualhead' already (with tvout treated as second head)

I'm using it as 2ndary card along my G400 as you can see in my sig - works seamlessly, meaning, I can maximize AutoCAD across two monitors and do 3D Orbit of gourad shaded model, etc...

First, Millennium has two dip switches:

one is for enable/disable BIOS flash,
other is for VGA mode enable/disable.

Flash the card to lattest BIOS.

Disable VGA mode as the card is going to be secondary, enable init display first as AGP in BIOS and select your other card as primary in Windows.

Lattest XP drivers for Millennium are 2.82 (Unified Powerdesk, that supports till G550)

XP also should have built in drivers.

I recommend to use manufacturer drivers for your AGP card and XP drivers for Millennium.

Connect both monitors and right click on desktop, select properties, settings.

You should see two monitors, 2nd grayed out.

click 2nd monitor, choose, extend my Windows desktop on this monitor, choose Advanced and set up resolution and refresh.

2MB card can do 1024x768@16-bit colour.

for 1280x1024 you need an 4MB card and for 1600x1200 you need an 8MB card.

230MHz RAMDAC is fine for 1600x1200.

            Manual:

            Drivers for 2k/XP:

Note, that you can drag taskbar to other monitor with a mouse.

try out Ultramon for multiple monitor manager.

Make sure you don't install mirroring features as it might interfere with powerdesk, also disable netmeeting desktop sharing service as it interferes during display enumeration and can come before real displays....

(Do a search for my posts and millennium here and on Matrox forum).

Also install Powerstrip and tweak refreshes by .5 Hz or so untill you minimize interference.

Got to this old thread when searching for a solution for my latest experiment. As I was so lucky to get two discarded Philips 17" monitors from my employer last week, I decided to try and build a dual head rig (and maybe even triple head using DVDMax) combining my trusty G400 Marvel with a MillenniumII that I got from a sortout. Knowing that both individual cards are in good working order, I can't get the fresh Win98 install to boot: it halts during startup so I can't get past the splash screen. Are there any special tricks to make this happen?
Again, it's not that important, I just like to fiddle around with the old stuff every now and then.
