Matrox does alot off new driver releases, and I know that they have left the gaming market, I don't know witch markets MAtrox is aiming for now, but it looks like they want to be in the professional 3D maket, and if they want to be in there they have to release some hardware that handles 3D well, and concidering that next version off Windows (Longhorn) will use DirectX 9 on the desktop, I guess Matrox will have to implement this to.

I also tink they also are going to make graphics cards with PCI Express suport, and PCI Express is starting to emerge on the maket first half of this year!

Will be exiting to se what Matrox comes up with... Perhps we get some inside info...

Well this is straing for me. Matrox want to make graphic cards for Pro market. For example proffessional 3D.. Well nVidia Quadro series, ATI FireGL etc... I think Matrox cards are "little" to slow in 3D rendering for that ;P So i'm wondering how they want do that

If you've ever seen a 3D package like 3D Studio Max or Maya with three monitors, you'll see where the desire to have a Parhelia would be. It is SO nice to have that much screen real estate. They ARE indeed going for the professional 3D market. That's what their linux drivers are geared towards, that's for sure.

Well.. leech maybe. But i work a lot in 3DMAX & similar applications & sometimes, when there is a lot of elements in the scene, Parhelia was grrrrrr. Terrible. To slow rendering. & I was using just 1 monitor. I think when i will try use more than 1 monitor, it will be worse...

I remember the launch of 3D Studio Max 4, where Kinetix (now Discreet) demoed their software on computer with Matrox video cards ! (I specifically asked, and they stated they chose it for image quality)
I do think they had an additonal accelerator board...

I nearly bought a 3DLabs Wildcat VP560 instead of this Matrox P650... the reason I didn't? Well on the 3DLabs forums I was cheerfully told that installing DirectX 9 or playing any DX game might screw up the whole system and that The Flash toolbars are graphically corrupted.

Well... so that means they are great cards if you only ever use 3D Studio, but what about if you like to play games 1 day of the week or if you have only 1 computer (like me) ? I had to choose the Matrox and I am very very happy with it... and the card I had before was a 9700 Pro.

I know there are many problems with the speed of the Parhelia and the promises they made to their early Parhelia buyers, but I can certainly see the logic of the Matrox cards.

What happend with 9700 Pro ? Why You change it ? & maybe You got right when You play games some times. I don't so maybe that's why i don't see whole spectrum... But let's look other side. I think that in office, when You go to work & make some 3D things for Your boss, You need more PRO card than card for playing games some times... So if You can be that boss, what card will You buy for Your 3d graphic production team ?

Did you have FAA and Anisotropic filtering on? What version of 3D Studio Max were you using? I'm sure Matrox would like to know, and could possibly help ya.

The last time I tried Maya under linux, it was pretty slow too, but what else would you expect from the very first release to support GL. I haven't tried to do much though, so I can't say really for sure it WAS that slow, just the UI itself seemed slow. I haven't tried it yet with the new 1.1.0 driver...
