  • Parhelia and OpenGL 1.4 Support

So... from my searches here and at the Matrox.com forums, I've gathered that the current Parhelia drivers do not support OpenGL 1.4 extensions.

It's not a huge deal, per se, except if you want to play Knights of the Old Republic (which I do).

Any word on if or when the drivers will be updated?

KotOR does not require OGL 1.4
There are bugs in the game, but others have been able to play the game on Parhelia by tweaking some settings:
    Core2 Duo E7500 2.93, Asus P5Q Pro Turbo, 4gig 1066 DDR2, 1gig Asus ENGTS250, SB X-Fi Gamer ,WD Caviar Black 1tb, Plextor PX-880SA, Dual Samsung 2494s

      Thanks Kruzin.

Perhaps I misread the system check utility that came with the game. It indicates that for OpenGL i've got a red 1.3. I assumed this meant that I had OpenGL 1.3 and that was inadequate. I'll look at the utility again this afternoon when I get home.

I was aware that people have had workarounds, but I assume this is related to the system checks that my system doesn't pass. I was just hoping for an appropriate fix, so that I could play without so much fuss.

Anywho... as I said, this isn't urgent, nor am I too worked up about it. I'll get into the workarounds when I get a spare moment and see what performance is like.

        moreau,

I've played through KOTOR a number of times using a Parhelia.

If you follow the workarounds (Disabling the movies as they are the major issue) and disable the grass, the performance is more than adequate.

Plus, it's a pretty cool game

          The movies don't add anything?

From what i can gather, they are a fairly integral part of the storyline.
You should be able to follow it without too much trouble without them though.
I think the link to the Official Matrox Forums posting mentions that the BIF files can be played on a player of some sort you can get from the RAD GAMES TOOLS website, this should allow you to watch the movies out of game.

Sounds like a bit of messing around to play a popular game.

So I'll restate my question, are there any plans to make the drivers compatible with KotOR?

Yes.....tech support is looking into it.
But as alway they cant tell you if the problem will be fixed with the next driver update.
