  • Can i set my Matrox card to scale the output?

Is there a way to run at any resloution eg 1024x768 on the desktop / games and scale in graphics card hardware and output to 1280x1024 as presumably it will be better quality than using the LCD screen to do it?

It shouldnt be too hard to do through hardware overlaying one head over the other and applying scaling.

I think this is a area where matrox could make a difference.

You could use the TFT as a feature display and use the Multi-Display Zoom if you have a Parhelia or perhaps Clone if you have a G-series card. I presume you have the latter, because the Parhelia would be able to cope.

Which game are you intending to use on which graphics card, and on which LCD screen?
Most LCD screens only introduce minor blurring, which is fine if the game uses a lot of textures. If you would want to play games on TFT, why not go for an NVidia or ATI with digital out and use a LCD monitor with digital in, that way you prevent further blurring effects

    Good luck,

That will look a tad nasty if it works. 1024x768 is 4:3, and 1280x1024 is not.

Maybe my question was a bit mis-written.

You have an LCD at a fixed resolution, with a DVI input.

        Your programs run at resolutions e.g. 640x480 , 800X600 , 1024x768, etc.

Currently as far as i'm aware the LCD screen does the scaling, and different resolutions look uglier / or better on different screens.

Is there a way or have any graphics card manufacturers implemented a way to scale the output, of any program ? I know not all the resolutions have the the same aspect ratio.

Wombat:- I was thinking along the lines generally less nasty than the screen doing it.

id be interested in something like this myself, running 20"LCD at 1600x1200, which is nice but id prefer to be at 1280x1024 for web-browsing and a few other things, i just cant put up with the blur as the res drops. Im sure it would be pretty acheivable to scale a resolution nicely so that it was not blurry.

Can you perhaps turn off auto scaling on the LCD monitor?
You would have a black border surrounding your game, but at least you don't have the scaling.
Still not sure if you use a Parhelia or the G550
You could also ask the game manufacturer if you can add custom resolutions to the game... There could be some kind of ini file.... search for values like 1024 or 640 in config files
