  • broken parhelia

ok, in a rather untimely accident my parhelia appears to have suffered no damage apart from losing 3 componants off the pcb, if any parhelia users out there could help me out by taking a photo or identifying the missing peices for me would be awesome, hopefully i might be able to buy the parts and solder them on, im hoping they are just surface mount resistors or capacitors.

attached is a pic of the missing peices, its on the back of the card just below the fingers which make contact in the agp slot

this might look a bit different because i've replaced the stock-heatsink with a zalman-heatpipe to reduce noise. but it still is a parhelia (bulk).

It seems that these parts are capacitors, namely C791, C788 and C792 (from right to left).

Unfortunatly I cannot help you out with exact numbers, since there aren't any numbers printed on them, sorry.

          Wish you good luck, Hannes

PS: what about the parts, you should have them, don't you? Then you could go to some electronic store and there they can measure the capacity of these parts (and sell you new ones).

do you think if i e-mailed matrox i could find out what rating the caps are? or would i most likely get a "sorry we cannot help you with that, if you have any thing else dont hesitate to e-mail us back, thankyou" style reply :/

yes, because takeing a soldering iron to your P would void warenty.

When I am sober I'll see what i can find out on my P here.

                You're welcome.

PS: I'd try to contact matrox support for a RMA-request. Maybe you can request a replacement card.

im actually in new zealand, but thanks anyway.
id try, but unless you have a genuinly blatantly obvious fault it can be a real bitch getting things rma'd, suppliers are very stuck up here as they have a *much* smaller market to deal with

hey, they should have thousands of P's on stock waiting to be RMA'd

My case: I've requested a new fan for my P because it got a bit noisy after a year of use - just the fan, not the whole cooler-unit. The only answer i got was to send them back the entire P for replacement... Anyway, i ve decided to get that zalman stuff to mod around a bit
