  • DVDMAX works wonderfully-ONCE.

I'm using a g450 setup as a dual-head. DVDMAX is enabled. When I play a mpeg2 file with Powerdvd it will show up on the second monitor and everything is wonderful. ONCE. If I let the file finish playing, or if I stop it and hit play again, it will NOT show up on the 2nd display and the audio/video is real jerky on the primary display. Interesting thing is this. If I make any change in my display settings, it will work again, ONCE. Then it's the same problem. It's almost like saving a display change resets something. DVDMAX works once, won't work again. Change display settings, (or reboot), it works again, once. Change display setting, it works again, once. Repeat endlessly.
Anyone have any ideas? All other dual-head features work fine. PowerPoint presentations go straight to the 2nd monitor just fine. Just this one glitch, and it's a rather annoying one. Any pointers would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

There is a known bug with Windows Media Player, where if you create a playlist of mpegs, only every other one will play over DVDMax. This is a Windows bug that affects all multi-display cards from all manufacturers.
    Perhaps this is related...

Interesting. The MS KB only mentioned Media Player. Might it be possible that it affects PowerDVD also? Does deleting playlists correct it? I'm not where the computer is now, so I can't try anything until tomorrow.

Just for grins I moved some stuff around here at the house and set one of my desktops up a dual-head. It has the same version of PowerDVD as the other and I used the same video file and it plays correctly. Starts, stops, starts, stops, starts, stops, etc... just as I would expect the other one to. I would think a WMP problem would cause this one to do it also, or if it was a problem with the file. This one has a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 instead of a Matrox G450. So at the moment I don't know. It's late, I'm tired, and I'm going to bed. Hopefully by the time I get up someone has come across this and may have a solution. If not, I have an updated BIOS file for the card and we'll see if that helps. I need to have this resolved by Sunday morning as it is for an Easter program, but if not, let's hope that it will at least work the once, and life goes on.
